Travis Hunter, a two-way star for the Colorado Buffaloes, said on Thursday that he intends to enter the 2025 NFL Draft.
When asked if he planned to declare, Hunter, 21, responded to reporters, “That’s definitely for sure.”
Hunter, a cornerback and receiver for the Buffaloes, is a favorite to win the Heisman Trophy. Many predict that he will be chosen first overall in April of next year.
Hunter admitted that it’s uncommon to play both offense and defense as a professional, responding, “It’s never been done.”
“[Teams] don’t want their top pick to go down too early, and I know they’re going to want me to be in a couple packages,” he continued, acknowledging that it would be a high-risk situation. But I think I’m capable. So yet, no one has prevented me from doing it.

Hunter has set career highs with 74 receptions for 911 yards and nine touchdowns in 10 games for Colorado this season. Hunter has 23 tackles, eight passes defended, and three interceptions on defense.
After graduating from high school, Hunter was a highly sought-after athlete. He was initially committed to Florida State, but he later changed his mind and signed to Jackson State, becoming the first five-star recruit to commit to an HBCU. He was a consensus five-star prospect.
Prior to the 2023 season, when Deion Sanders took over as head coach, Hunter played one season for Jackson State before transferring to Colorado.
Hunter played on offense, defense, and special teams last season, averaging nearly 115 plays per game.
Shedeur, Sanders’ son and a quarterback for Colorado, is expected to be one of the first signal-callers chosen in the draft the following year. Sanders, another player who may make it to the Heisman finals, stated on Thursday that Hunter is the better worthy of the two to take home the honor.
Shedeur Sanders stated, “I would want him to get it if it’s between me and him.” He accomplishes many incredible feats that have never been done before. I’m not a self-centered person. I would rather that he win because I am aware of his abilities.
