Authorities stated Tuesday that an animal rights extremist who is suspected of carrying out two explosions in Northern California over 20 years ago was apprehended in Wales.
Officers from the National Crime Agency (NCA), the U.K.’s Counter Terrorism Police, and North Wales Police apprehended Daniel Andreas San Diego, 46, on Monday, according to the NCA.
Following San Diego’s capture, FBI Director Christopher Wray declared that the suspect would at last be held “accountable” for his claimed acts of “violence and destruction.”
No matter how long it takes, the FBI will locate you and hold you accountable, as demonstrated by Daniel San Diego’s arrest after more than 20 years on the run for two bombings in the San Francisco region, Wray said in a statement.
Two homemade pipe bombs that detonated on August 28, 2003, at Chiron Corp., a biotech company located in Emeryville, just across the bay from San Francisco, have been connected to San Diego.
Additionally, he is charged of delivering a “bomb strapped with nails” that detonated on September 26, 2003, to Shaklee Corp., a nutritional company located in the nearby town of Pleasanton.
San Diego, who was born in Berkeley, was thought by the FBI to have bombed the companies because they had collaborated with another lab that had used animals in studies.
San Diego was a vegan who had been a computer network specialist, according to the FBI.
In our nation, there are proper and improper ways to voice your opinions, and using violence and destroying property is not one of them,” Wray continued.
The explosions in 2003 did not damage anyone.
Novartis AG purchased Chiron Corp. in 2005; a spokesman for the massive Swiss pharmaceutical company was not immediately available for comment on Tuesday.
A statement on the California company’s website states, “As a matter of policy, Shaklee Corporation is opposed to and does not conduct animal testing of any kind on any Shaklee product.”
Additionally, a Shaklee representative was not immediately available for comment on Tuesday.
