According to authorities on Tuesday, a friend saw a man who had been missing for 25 years in a newspaper article about missing persons and brought him back to his family.
Unidentified but thought to be in his 60s, the non-verbal guy was discovered in Los Angeles earlier this year after spending time in two hospitals where neither police nor staff were aware of his identity.
According to the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office in northeastern California, a woman called Deputy Derek Kennemore on Friday to identify her brother, who had not been seen since he was listed as missing in an April USAToday article in Doyle, California, in 1999.

After visiting the hospital, a detective from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Missing Persons Unit took the man’s fingerprints, verifying that he was the same individual who vanished in 1999. According to the sheriff’s office, the family has requested that their identities not be made public.
