Missing camper found safe after more than 5 weeks in Canada’s Northern Rockies

More than five weeks after going missing, a Canadian man who went camping in the chilly, untamed Northern Rockies was discovered unharmed, according to authorities.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Cpl. Madonna Saunderson said in a statement Wednesday that Sam Benastick, 20, of the city of Kamloops, stopped two individuals on their way to work at Redfern Lake path in state-run Redfern-Keily Park on Tuesday.

According to Saunderson, the two identified Benastick as the target of a missing person’s search, picked him up, and brought him to a hospital for examination.

There was no information available on his condition.

Before heading to the path, Benastick set up a campground in a dry creek bed after spending a few days camping in his car and up to fifteen more days camping on a mountaintop, according to Saunderson.

The search team, Kamloops Search and Rescue, wished Benastick and his family “a speedy recovery.”

When Benastick failed to return from a camping trip on October 19, his family reported him missing, according to Kamloops Search and Rescue.

Central Okanagan Search and Rescue, which took part in the search, stated in a statement that he had last checked in with his family on October 8.

According to the RMCP statement, local volunteers who were familiar with the area’s trails and backwoods, the Canadian Rangers, and Fort Nelson and North Peace teams provided additional search and rescue assistance.

The statement said that the amount of time, energy, and resources used to find Sam since word that he was gone was incalculable.

According to Saunderson, the result was exceptional.
