Jamestown Hotel Marks 100th Anniversary with Special Event Celebrating Its Legacy

(WNY News Now) In honor of a century of community service, the historic hotel will offer a luncheon, panel discussion, and local memories.

The historic Jamestown Hotel is excited to announce that on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at 12:00 p.m., it will celebrate its 100th anniversary. Renowned local historian and interviewer Greg Peterson will lead a panel discussion and lunch at the event, which will take place in the magnificent Crystal Ballroom. Members of the Chautauqua Sports Hall of Fame, such as Bruce Battler, Scott Kindberg, Mike Goldman, and Randy Anderson, will be on the panel. The public is invited to gather and commemorate the hotel’s rich heritage and community role for a century on this historic event.

From its grand opening on December 31, 1924, to its function as a meeting spot for locals, tourists, and well-known celebrities like Lucille Ball and sports stars, the event will showcase the Jamestown Hotel’s rich history. Renowned local history documentarian Greg Peterson will host an engaging discussion about the hotel’s renowned sporting banquets and guests. Dennis Webster will give a brief overview of the hotel’s history and the 100th anniversary of WJTN, which started there.

Joe Gerace, executive director of the Jamestown Housing Authority, stated, “We are so thrilled to celebrate this milestone and invite our community to join in the fun.” We hope to hear from anyone who have shared in the history of the Jamestown Hotel, whether they have personal recollections or have just enjoyed the hotel as a part of their lives. The hotel has been a mainstay of downtown Jamestown for a century.

Participants will have the chance to reminisce on and share their personal experiences at the Jamestown Hotel. A unique memorial display of photos from the hotel’s century-long history will also be part of the celebration. The Crystal Ballroom at the Jamestown Hotel, 110 West Third St., will host this event on Thursday, December 5 at noon. Lunch and panel discussion participation are included in the $15 admission fee. Residents of the Jamestown Housing Authority can use it for free.
