Adam Sandler teases ‘Happy Gilmore 2’

On Wednesday, Adam Sandler and Netflix offered its fans a Chrismukkah present by releasing a trailer for the follow-up to his 1996 movie “Happy Gilmore.”

It is anticipated that “Happy Gilmore 2” will make its Netflix premiere in 2025.

Sandler makes a comeback as the main character, a former ice hockey player who now plays golf professionally. In the first movie, Happy enters a professional golf tournament in the hopes of earning money to assist pay his grandmother’s taxes, and he ends up becoming an unlikely golf hero.

Christopher McDonald, who portrayed rival golfer Shooter McGavin, and Julie Bowen, who portrayed Happy’s love interest Virginia Venit, also return in the follow-up.

Sandler reunited with longtime partner and former “Saturday Night Live” writer Tim Herlihy to co-write the script. The sequel was directed by Kyle Newacheck, who also directed Sandler in Netflix’s Murder Mystery.

Rapper Bad Bunny, Margaret Qualley (who just starred in The Substance), Nick Swardson (who frequently works with Sandler), and Benny Safdie (who wrote and directed Sandler’s Uncut Gems movie) are among the new members of the group. NFL player Travis Kelce also made an appearance in the teaser, saying, “It’s great to see you back, Mr. Gilmore.”

In May, Netflix revealed the sequel.

Sandler posted a picture of Happy’s Boston Bruins shirt to Instagram in September with the caption, “It ain’t over.” In my opinion, we have just begun.

Sandler discussed the creation of the sequel in an August interview with “Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon.
