(WNY News Now) – A tense domestic dispute involving a firearm led to an armed standoff and a SWAT response in Syracuse on Monday, ending without injury and with the suspect in custody.
SYRACUSE, NY – On Monday, November 11, 2024, around 2:25 p.m., Syracuse Police officers responded to a call from the 700 block of Kirkpatrick Street, where a 24-year-old woman reported being threatened by her partner during a domestic dispute. The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Kendell Johns, allegedly brandished a gun during the altercation, which took place earlier at a residence on the 1000 block of First North Street.
Upon arriving at the initial location, officers conducted a preliminary investigation and learned that Johns was still inside the residence on First North Street. Concerned about the potential risk to public safety and the victim, authorities summoned SWAT and Crisis Team negotiators to de-escalate the situation.
After a period of negotiations, Johns voluntarily surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident. No injuries were reported in connection with the standoff. Johns now faces charges related to the domestic incident. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
