Woman, 20, May Face Charges After Miscarrying in NYC Restaurant and Leaving Fetus in Toilet
A 20-year-old woman may face criminal charges after allegedly miscarrying in a bathroom at Sophie’s Cuban Cuisine in Manhattan, leaving the fetus behind. The male fetus, about 22 to 23 weeks gestation, was discovered the next day by restaurant employees after the toilet became clogged. The fetus was found with the placenta and umbilical cord still attached. Authorities are considering charging the woman with concealment of a human corpse, a felony.
The discovery occurred on September 30 when staff found the clogged toilet and eventually identified the fetus inside. Investigators believe the woman, a customer at the restaurant, miscarried the day before and left without alerting anyone to the incident.
