Leslie Charleson, longtime star of ‘General Hospital,’ dies at 79

Frank Valentini, the executive producer of General Hospital, announced the death of Leslie Charleson, who portrayed Dr. Monica Quartermaine for almost 50 years. Her age was 79. I regret to inform you of the demise of my good friend and coworker, @lesliecharleson, who posted in a thread on X on January 12. He added that Leslie was a cherished matriarch of the entire cast and crew, just as Monica was the center of the Quartermaine family. Her lasting legacy has lasted for almost 50 years on @GeneralHospital alone. Her sharp wit, amazing presence on set, and our daily conversations will be missed. He ended, "My deepest sympathies are with her loved ones during this trying time, on behalf of everyone at #GeneralHospital." Supreme Court allows Hawaii climate change lawsuit to move forward

WashingtonOn Monday, the Supreme Court rejected arguments from a number of oil firms seeking to block a Hawaii case that aims to hold them responsible for climate change. The ruling permits the Honolulu municipality to proceed with a widely followed litigation that asserts rights under Hawaii state law against corporations, such as Sunoco and Shell. The businesses contend that state courts shouldn't deal with climate change since it is fundamentally a federal law issue. Chevron, BP, and ExxonMobil are among the other corporations that were sued. In October 2023, the Hawaii Supreme Court decided that the case could proceed, concentrating on the oil firms' allegedly misleading public comments and marketing rather than the tangible effects of climate change. Since the action does not aim to r...

Stocks have fallen back to pre-Election Day levels amid renewed inflation and interest-rate concerns

Amid predictions that the Federal Reserve will not cut interest rates as much as anticipated, the post-Election Day surge in stock prices is waning. The tech-heavy Nasdaq was down as high as 1% before Monday's opening bell, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average was on track to open.10% lower and the wider S&P 500 was down 0.65%. For the first time, S&P 500 futures officially opened below their levels on November 6, 2024. Donald Trump, the president-elect, had hoped that his win to a second term would maintain the record-high market prices throughout the Biden administration and spark a fresh wave of business optimism. However, the post-election surge has been comparatively brief due to worries about the long-term budgetary situation for the United States and fears that price incre...

Former Village of Candor Mayor Pleads Guilty to Stealing $23,000 in Public Funds

Candor, New York (WNY News Now) In a statement, New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli and the New York State Police said that former Village of Candor Mayor Eric Halstead has entered a guilty plea to the theft of more than $23,000 in public monies. As mayor from 2012 until his resignation in July 2024, Halstead embezzled money from the village's bank account for his own use while claiming it was an ATM withdrawal or the mayor's discretion. While working on the village's yearly financial reports, an outside consultant found evidence of the thefts, which occurred between February 2017 and May 2023. After the consultant identified questionable transactions, DiNapoli's office launched an investigation. Investigation findings showed that Halstead took out a total of $23,519, frequent...

NFL playoffs: Commanders beat the Buccaneers 23-20 with a last-second field goal off the upright

It should have been a stressful occasion. Washington had a chance to win the game despite facing third-and-one while traveling for the NFL playoffs. However, Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels was observed chuckling on the field while conversing with Tampa Bay defenders across the line of scrimmage during a brief pause in play with just 55 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Daniels has had a terrific first season and has not seemed to mind a large stage. Daniels has consistently delivered in unexpected ways that belie his inexperience, from his Hail Mary touchdown to defeat Chicago to his 12 touchdown passes in the fourth quarter and overtime, the most ever by a rookie quarterback. In Tampa Bay, that continued on Sunday. After slugging it out with the Buccaneers defense, Daniels made...
