New York Jets fire GM Joe Douglas as tumultuous season spirals further out
Joe Douglas was fired by the New York Jets on Tuesday, the team confirmed.
In 2019, Douglas, then 48, was in the last year of a six-year deal he had signed to run the Jets' front office. After a 3–8 start to the season, New York fired him.
In a statement, owner Woody Johnson stated, "I want to thank Joe for his commitment to the Jets over the last six years and wish him and his family the best going forward."
After serving as the Philadelphia Eagles' vice president of player personnel for three years, Douglas was hired by the Jets. Since Douglas took over as general manager, New York has a 30-64 record in 94 games.
Douglas has failed in both of his attempts to play quarterback.
