Meghan Markle and Billie Eilish team up to support teen who lost home in L.A. fires

Following the Eaton Fire's destruction of her Altadena house in Los Angeles County, Meghan Markle and Billy Eilish have joined up to give a 15-year-old fan a meaningful surprise. About 100 miles from their Montecito home, the Duchess of Sussex and her husband, Prince Harry, recently traveled to the region impacted by the wildfires in Southern California to visit with families in the wake of the catastrophe. They encountered a mother and daughter whose house was in ruins. The Duchess of Sussex described the touching experience on her Instagram on Tuesday. "And her mom shared something with me and said that when they came back to see their house for the first time, which is as we were meeting them, that all that she'd been looking for in her home was the t-shirt from the Billie Eilish concer...

Silent film feared lost for over 100 years found by intern going through old boxes on Long Island

An intern searching through old boxes on Long Island, New York, discovered a piece of film history that had been missing for almost a century and was believed to be gone forever. The 16-millimeter film is thought to be the only surviving copy of The Heart of Lincoln, a silent film that chronicles the Civil War era in America and the life of President Abraham Lincoln. The Library of Congress named the Universal motion picture from 1915 as one of 7,000 silent films thought to be permanently lost. Francis Ford, the older brother of the renowned Hollywood filmmaker John Ford, who won a record four Academy Awards for Best Director and would go on to produce his own film about Lincoln decades later, served as both the film's director and its star. Head Start childcare programs are still unable to access federal money after Trump funding freeze

According to a National Head Start Association survey, dozens of Head Start programs—which offer low-income children childcare and preschool education—have been unable to obtain previously authorized federal funding, putting some programs in danger of closing their doors in the near future. The programs claim that since a federal funding freeze was declared in the second week of the Trump administration, they have not been able to access the money to cover costs such as payroll and electricity. An Office of Management and Budget document that initiated the freeze last week was swiftly withdrawn. A judge delayed the action amid a legal challenge to the freeze, and the White House stated that the freeze shouldn't have harmed Head Start programs. However, according to the report, funding dela...

NFL referees forced to respond to Kansas City Chiefs ‘conspiracy theories’ about bias

On Tuesday, the NFL referees' labor organization denounced "conspiracy theories" that officials have been slanting games in favor of the Kansas City Chiefs, the two-time defending Super Bowl champions. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has to confront the widespread and unfounded claims that referees are the bag for Kansas City this week as the Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles prepare for Sunday's Super Bowl. NFLRA executive director Scott Green stated that Commissioner Goodell's remarks that it is absurd to assume that NFL officials are not making every effort to call the correct play are accurate. During a regular season, officiating crews only work the same team twice. Hearing conspiracy theories that claim that 17 officiating crews, totaling 138 officials, are conspiring to support one team...

Death of Philadelphia school teacher Ellen Greenberg to be reinvestigated after pathologist reverses suicide ruling

Ellen Greenberg, a Philadelphia school teacher who was viciously stabbed in 2011, will have her cause of death reexamined after a pathologist who earlier declared her death to be a suicide changed his mind last week. On January 26, 2011, Greenberg, then 27 years old, was discovered dead with a kitchen knife stuck in her chest. She was found in the apartment she lived with her fiancé, Samuel Goldberg, in Philadelphia. That night, Goldberg had come home from the gym to find the swing bar lock was engaged from the inside, locking him out of the flat. The Philadelphia Medical Examiner's investigative report states that he eventually managed to pry open the door, located Ellen, and dialed 911. According to the autopsy report, she suffered 20 stab wounds, 10 of which were to her head and neck. A...

South Carolina Considers Bill to Permit Direct Sales of Electric Vehicles

Columbia, South Carolina.A plan proposed by a bipartisan coalition of South Carolina lawmakers may allow customers to buy electric vehicles (EVs) straight from producers such as Rivian, Tesla, and Scout Motors, eschewing conventional dealership networks. Scout Motors intends to build a $2 billion EV manufacturing facility in Blythewood, South Carolina, with production starting in 2027. This legislative action coincides with that plan. Currently, direct-to-consumer sales strategies used by businesses like Tesla and Rivian are prohibited by South Carolina law, which requires that vehicle sales take place through franchised dealerships. Volkswagen subsidiary Scout Motors plans to use a similar direct sales strategy for its next generation of SUVs and electric vehicles. Residents of South Caro...
