Craig Melvin will replace Hoda Kotb as co-anchor of NBC News’ ‘TODAY’ show

Craig Melvin will replace Hoda Kotb after the beloved co-anchor announced in September that she was leaving NBC News’ “TODAY” after nearly two decades. Melvin, a news anchor of “TODAY” and a co-host of the 3rd hour of “TODAY,” made the announcement on the show Thursday morning. Kotb will remain as co-anchor until early next year. She said she made the decision after she turned 60 in August. “I realized that it was time for me to turn the page at 60 and to try something new,” she told her fellow hosts as she fought back tears. Kotb has co-anchored the show with Savannah Guthrie since early 2018, becoming the first all-female anchor team. Guthrie praised Kotb for her “guts” and said she was exiting at “the top of [her] game.” This is a developing story. Please check b...

Olympic gold medalist Lindsey Vonn to come out of retirement ahead of 2026 Games

Former Olympic gold medalist and world champion Lindsey Vonn is returning to skiing, she announced Thursday. She said in an interview with the New York Times that her return was not planned and that she only reconsidered after successful knee replacement surgery seven months ago stopped the pain that had prompted her retirement. “I’m trying not to get too far ahead of myself because I have quite a few hoops to jump through,” she said. “Obviously, I wouldn’t be doing this if I didn’t hope to be racing. I have aspirations. I love to go fast. How fast can I go? I don’t know." Latino mobile home park residents denounce conditions, allege discrimination

Mariano Jacobo Piñón, a resident at the Fairgrounds United mobile home park in Lake County, Ohio, said that for months he warned park managers about the lack of maintenance at the grounds, especially regarding a tree near his house, but that they did not listen to him. “One night a hurricane warning came and I was with my wife and granddaughters at home and we felt a huge blow. It was the tree that fell on the roof and broke the house. Now we can’t live there. We don’t know what to do because the managers and no one has helped us,” said Piñón, an immigrant from Mexico. At nearby Perry Mobile Home Park, resident Vicente Hernández, 53, a trailer mechanic, said the worst time is the winter, “because they don’t remove the snow and the children have to walk in the mornings to catch the bu...

India’s Supreme Court bans ‘bulldozer justice’ often used against Muslims

India ’s Supreme Court on Wednesday strongly criticized states that have demolished properties of suspected criminals, a practice critics say mostly targets minority Muslims , and issued guidelines to authorities. The verdict came in response to many petitions filed after demolitions in recent years in states ruled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi ’s Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). BJP governments in the states have torn down what they say are illegal houses or shops of people accused of crimes, many of them Muslims, in what has come to be popularly known as “instant, bulldozer justice.” Rights groups and opposition parties have denounced the practice, saying it mostly targets poor Muslims while circumventing the judicial process. BJP gove...
