The wait is ended.
Beyonc’s Cowboy Carter record was won the Grammys’ album of the year on Sunday, completing one of the few voids in her otherwise illustrious career.
After accepting the award, Beyonc remarked, “I just feel very full and very honored.” Many, many years have passed.
Despite being the most awarded performer in Grammy history, Beyonc has already lost the Recording Academy’s most prestigious prize four times.
Despite some opposition from the country music community, Cowboy Carter’s March release received mostly positive reviews. Last year, the album was not nominated for any Country Music Association Awards.
On Sunday morning, Beyonc won hours after announcing the Cowboy Carter tour on social media.
Blue Ivy, her daughter, joined her on stage to accept the honor. She began by expressing gratitude to firefighters for keeping residents of the Los Angeles area safe throughout the wildfires.
She expressed gratitude to “the Grammys, every songwriter, every collaborator, every producer, all of the hard work.”
She went on to dedicate her victory to Black women’s pioneer in country music, Linda Martell. The CD also features Martell.
“I want to dedicate this to Miss Martell, and I hope we just keep pushing forward, opening doors,” Beyonc stated.
She gave an explanation of the Cowboy Carter album’s origin in March, stating that the criticism she encountered when attempting to break into the genre served as the impetus.
At the time, she posted on Instagram that she had been working on Cowboy Carter for five years, a project that was inspired by an incident in which she did not feel accepted years prior.
The 2022 dance music album Renaissance marked the beginning of a three-part project, of which Cowboy Carter is the second installment. Many people think the initiative is Beyonc’s attempt to restore musical genres that Black artists invented. The album’s name was formally announced in March after it was hinted at during the 2024 Super Bowl. Post Malone, Miley Cyrus, Shaboozey, Dolly Parton, and several other country musicians were among the many guests that performed on Cowboy Carter, which was released on March 29.
Andr 3000, Sabrina Carpenter, Charli XCX, Jacob Collier, Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, and Taylor Swift, who was vying for her second victory in the category in two years, were among the strong competitors Beyonc faced for Sunday’s most prized honor.
She also had the title of most nominated at the 2025 Grammys and was up for eleven more awards tonight, including song of the year, record of the year, and best country album.
Beyonc’s third victory of the evening was album of the year. She and Cyrus’s song “II Most Wanted” won best pop duo/group performance in the preshow, and during the main program, she took home the award for best country album.
