Biden to travel to New Orleans to meet with families following terror attack

The White House said Friday that President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden will travel to New Orleans on Monday, the scene of a terror assault that occurred there on New Year’s Day and left 14 people dead and numerous others injured.

The Bidens will “grieve with the families and community members impacted by the tragic attack on January 1 and meet with officials on the ground” during their visit to Louisiana, according to a statement from the White House.

Two days after Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, crashed a pickup truck into people on Bourbon Street early on Wednesday morning, the statement was made. Shortly after the assault, police shot and killed Jabbar.

He acted alone, according to the FBI, which also described the attack as “100% inspired by ISIS.”

Biden discussed the New Orleans attack and a another New Year’s Day incident in Las Vegas, where a car exploded in front of a Trump-branded property, on Thursday from the White House.

Additionally, we’re still looking into any potential links between the Las Vegas explosion and the attack in New Orleans. At an event commemorating the number of his judicial nominations confirmed during his administration, Biden stated, “As of right now, as of right now, I’ve just been briefed that they have not found any evidence of such a connection.”

“I gave my team instructions to expedite these investigations so we have answers to our unanswered questions,” Biden continued. To complete the task, they are using every resource at their disposal.

Biden did not provide any details when he claimed on Friday that he had spoken with the victims’ families in New Orleans.

When questioned about his conversations with the families, Biden said, “I’ve spoken to some, not all.”
