Blast kills 12 people at explosives factory in Turkey

An investigation has been opened after a bomb on Tuesday destroyed an explosives factory in northwest Turkey, killing 12 people and wounding four others, according to Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya.

CNN Turk aired images of a fireball and smoke billowing from the factory building at the moment of the explosion, and later footage showed the structure’s twisted metal framework shattered by the bomb.

About 100 miles northeast of Izmir, in the Balikesir region, in the village of Kavakli, a factory exploded. The local governor was quoted by CNN Turk as stating that there was no reason to suspect sabotage.

According to the government’s communications directorate, numerous fire companies were summoned to put out the fire, and security and medical personnel were sent to the scene while an investigation was conducted.
