Browns defensive end Myles Garrett requests trade

After eight seasons with the Cleveland Browns, defensive end Myles Garrett—one of the NFL’s most feared defenders—has asked to be traded.

Garrett, the first overall pick in the 2017 draft, stated that he wanted a trade because he wanted to win. The previous season ended with a 3-14 record for the Browns.

According to Garrett’s statement on Monday, “I’ve loved calling this city home, but my desire to win and compete on the biggest stages won’t allow me to be complacent.”

I have asked to be traded from the Cleveland Browns in light of it,” he continued.

One of the NFL’s most feared pass rushers is Garrett, a 29-year-old. He won the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year award and has six Pro Bowls to his name.

With the exception of his first season in 2017, Garrett has recorded double-digit sack totals each season. He has three forced fumbles and 14 sacks by the end of 2024.

Garrett has accumulated 102.5 sacks in 117 games during his career.

Cleveland has struggled to win consistently during the past eight seasons, despite Garrett’s achievements.

Since selecting Garrett, the Browns have only advanced to the postseason twice and have only won once. In the last eight years, the team has failed to qualify for the playoffs, finishing below.500 in each of those seasons, including a disastrous 0-16 campaign in 2017.

At the Senior Bowl in January, Cleveland general manager Andrew Berry informed reporters that the team had no interest in selling Garrett.

Berry stated, “Obviously, we feel really good about [Garrett] as a big piece of our future.” We can’t wait for him to take the field. When his career is ended, we see him moving from Cleveland to Canton, as I mentioned in my press conference.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network claims that the team’s position on dealing Garrett hasn’t altered in response to his request.

Garrett signed a five-year contract extension in 2020, with two seasons remaining.
