Buffalo Man Admits to Illicit Online Purchases and Cocaine Distribution Charge

(WNY News Now) – Buffalo resident Corey Robert Dodge, also known as “Cakesbaylor,” faces up to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to online fraud and drug distribution charges.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross announced that Corey Robert Dodge, 42, of Buffalo, NY, entered a guilty plea before U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra, Jr., on charges of fraud and drug possession. Dodge admitted to possessing over 15 unauthorized access devices with intent to defraud, as well as possession with intent to distribute cocaine. Together, these charges could result in a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles M. Kruly stated that the FBI’s investigation began in August 2018, targeting a covert online marketplace known as Genesis Market. This illicit platform packages stolen data, including device identifiers, usernames, email addresses, and passwords from malware-infected computers, for sale to buyers using virtual currencies like Bitcoin.

According to court documents, Dodge made 14 purchases on Genesis Market between March 2020 and May 2021. These transactions gave him access to various stolen account credentials, spanning services such as PayPal, Tracfone, eBay, Amazon, FedEx, Etsy, Walmart, Chase, Venmo, and eTrade. A subsequent search warrant was executed at Dodge’s residence on April 3, 2023, during which authorities found fentanyl, cocaine, MDMA, ketamine, and various drug-related paraphernalia.

Dodge’s sentencing is scheduled for April 29, 2025, before Judge Sinatra.
