Canyon Crest Fire prompts evacuation warning in California’s Riverside County

A vegetation fire started near Fontana Thursday afternoon, prompting Riverside County to issue an evacuation alert.

According to the San Bernardino County Fire Department, the Canyon Crest Fire was initially reported at approximately 5:30 p.m. in the vicinity of Canyon Crest Drive and Weeping Willow Lane.

The fire spread to more than 80 acres in a matter of hours at a moderate pace.

An evacuation alert was in effect for the region east of Country Village Road, south of the county line, west of Sierra Avenue, and north of the Moreno Valley (60) Freeway.

As of 10 p.m., there had been no reported injuries and the fire was at zero containment.
