U.K.’s Princess Kate announces she is in remission from cancer

LONDON—Months after completing chemotherapy, Catherine, the Princess of Wales, announced Tuesday that her cancer is in remission. The wife of the heir to the throne, Prince William, posted on Instagram, "I am relieved to be in remission now and I am still focused on recovery." Anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer knows that acclimating to a new normal takes time. But, she continued, "I am looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead." There's a lot to anticipate. We appreciate everyone's ongoing assistance. In a March video, the princess disclosed that she had cancer. She stated at the time that, under the recommendation of her medical staff, she was taking a course of prophylactic chemotherapy.

Boeing delivered 30 airplanes in December, but gap with Airbus widened in 2024

As the aerospace behemoth grappled with a crisis following a midair door panel burst a year ago and a fall worker strike that halted production, Boeing delivered 348 aircraft in 2024, roughly a third fewer than it did the year before. Although both firms are dealing with supply chain difficulties that have hampered production and fulfillment of their otherwise solid backlogs, the total increased the delivery gap with Boeing's main rival, Airbus, which delivered 766 jetliners to clients last year, the highest since 2019. Following the end of the almost eight-week machinist strike the previous month, Boeing resumed manufacturing of its best-selling 737 Max aircraft in December, delivering 30 aircraft. Since customers pay the majority of an airplane's price during deliveries, deliveries are c...

A series of fierce wildfires that raged over the Los Angeles area last week were fueled by strong winds and dry conditions. They destroyed hundreds of buildings and killed at least 24 people, some of whom perished attempting to stop the fires from engulfing their homes. Two of the fires were linked to an undetermined number of serious injuries, according to a Los Angeles County fire official, while a city official in Los Angeles called the night of January 7 one of the most terrible and catastrophic she had ever witnessed in her area of the city. Trump Pentagon pick Pete Hegseth pitches himself as a ‘change agent’ as he faces grilling in Senate hearing

During Tuesday's first confirmation hearing for President-elect Donald Trump's new Cabinet, Pete Hegseth presented himself as a "change agent" to lead the Defense Department, while Democrats criticized him as unsuited for any military leadership position, much less the top one. Hegseth stated in his introductory speech that if he were confirmed as defense secretary, his objectives would be to rebuild our military, restore the warrior mentality, and reestablish deterrence. Politics shouldn't be involved in military affairs, unlike the current administration. Hegseth declared, "We are American warriors, not Republicans or Democrats." Our expectations will be high, and they will be equal—which is a very different phrase than equitable. The heated meeting, which was repeatedly disrupted by pr...

FDA proposes putting nutrition info on the front of food packages

In an effort to assist Americans in quickly making healthier decisions, the Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday proposed a new regulation for nutrition labeling on packaged foods and beverages. Food makers will have to show the amounts of saturated fat, salt, and added sugar on the front of the container in addition to the usual nutrition labels on the back under the new law, which consumers may notice as early as 2028. According to Lindsey Smith Taillie, a nutrition epidemiologist at the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health, packaged foods in the United States frequently have a variety of health and nutrition claims, making it difficult for consumers to determine what is healthy or unhealthy. According to Smith Taillie, fruit drinks, for instance, may f...

TikTok pushes users to sister app Lemon8 ahead of potential ban

Another ByteDance-owned app, Lemon8, has risen in the Apple App Store rankings as the TikTok ban is set to go into effect at the end of the week, barring Supreme Court intervention. The second-ranked app in the App Store seems to be a combination of multiple other well-known social media sites. It features videos that cater to users' particular interests and sensibilities (like TikTok); photos that may be submitted as a single image or as a carousel of images (like Instagram); and an interface that lets users interact with multiple forms of material simultaneously (like Pinterest). According to Jessica Maddox, an associate professor of digital media technology at the University of Alabama, Lemon8 would be the result of the union of those three apps. Only TikTok and its parent firm, ByteDan...

Trump Pentagon pick Pete Hegseth faces grilling in Senate hearing

On Tuesday, senators began a confirmation hearing for President-elect Donald Trump's nominee for defense secretary, Pete Hegse, where personal problems and culture battles are anticipated to take center stage. During his appearance before the Senate Armed Services Committee, Hegseth, a former Fox News personality and Army combat veteran, is the first member of Trump's Cabinet to be publicly questioned by Congress. As senators scramble to assist Trump in completing his government before his inauguration on Monday, there are also about a dozen additional hearings planned for this week. Trump's new national security advisor, Rep. Mike Waltz, R-Fla., and former Sen. Norm Coleman, R-Minn, introduced Hegseth at the hearing. Keep up with real-time updates.
