Disney, Fox, Warner Bros. Discovery call off Venu sports streaming service

In a joint statement released Friday, Disney, Fox, and Warner Bros. Discovery announced that they had canceled their plans to launch Venu, their sports streaming service. They added in the statement that after giving it some thought, they had decided to end the Venu Sports joint venture and not start the streaming service. We concluded that it was best to concentrate on current products and distribution channels in order to satisfy the changing needs of sports fans in a market that is constantly changing. We are thankful to the Venu personnel, whom we will assist during this transition, and we are proud of the work that has been done on Venu thus far. Initially revealed in February, Venu aimed to merge Fox, WBD, and Disney-owned ESPN's live sports assets. Due in part to a legal challenge ...

Supreme Court considers whether to allow TikTok ban to take effect

Washington The Supreme Court will hear arguments on Friday over whether to reject a bill that would likely outlaw the social networking app TikTok in the US. Attorneys for TikTok, some of its users, and the Biden administration are presenting oral arguments to the court's nine justices, which has a conservative majority. A preliminary ruling is anticipated in the next days or hours. Enacted with widespread bipartisan support, the law mandates that ByteDance, the owner of TikTok, which is based in China, sell out its stake in the company by January 19, the day before President-elect Donald Trump takes office. The platform that millions of Americans utilize would be prohibited if no sale occurred. TikTok and a few of its users filed a lawsuit to have the measure blocked, claiming it infrin...

‘Slender Man’ attacker set to be released after 7 years in Wisconsin mental hospital

A judge decided Thursday that the Wisconsin lady, who at the age of 12 plotted with a buddy to ruthlessly knife a classmate in order to appease the imaginary horror figure "Slender Man," is well enough to be discharged from a mental health facility. According to Waukesha County Circuit Judge Michael Bohren, 22-year-old Morgan Geyser is now prepared to be transferred to a group home where her mental health will be continuously monitored after spending over seven years at the Winnebago Mental Health Institute. Judge Bohren was persuaded by the testimony of three medical professionals on Thursday that Geyser has made significant strides and is not a safety danger outside of the hospital. Nothing indicates that she poses a risk to herself or other people. Additionally, they would agree that th...

U.S. adds 256,000 jobs, as Biden leaves Trump with sturdy labor market

Given that the United States added a startling 256,000 jobs in December and the unemployment rate decreased slightly to 4.1%, President Joe Biden will leave office with a comparatively strong labor market. Both numbers, which were released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics on Friday, exceeded Wall Street projections and compare favorably to historical averages. According to a Dow Jones survey of analysts, the unemployment rate was predicted to have stayed at 4.2% in December and only 155,000 new jobs would have been created. When taken separately, the most recent data show that the U.S. economy has mostly succeeded in achieving the "soft landing" scenario that Biden desired: comparatively low inflation and unemployment. Even if hiring has significantly slowed over the previous year, layoff...

Garmin Forerunner 165 review: A running watch with great battery life and detailed data

Although Garmin produces some of the greatest fitness trackers and smartwatches for runners and athletes, I don't usually suggest the brand to anybody outside of that demographic. In my experience, its watches have historically been more costly, intricate, or antiquated than alternatives. These are not the characteristics of the Garmin Forerunner 165. For $250, it's a powerful smartwatch with many of the best features offered by the brand. After the firm offered me a trial, I used it for more than a month, and I'm now thinking about making it my go-to fitness tracker. That's a lot coming from a tech reporter who tests out new wearables every month. GO Ahead and SkipWhy should I trust NBC Select? How did I test the Garmin Forerunner 165? Our experience with the Garmin Forerunner 165? Who ...

Photos of Los Angeles show catastrophic scale of devastation as blazes burn uncontrolled

At least five fires spread across more than 45 square miles in the greater Los Angeles area on Thursday, continuing to burn mostly out of control. The fires, which have been fanned by dry conditions and strong winds, have claimed the lives of at least ten individuals. Tens of thousands of acres are being burned in highly populated regions by the Palisades, Eaton, and Hurst fires, among others, forcing more than 180,000 people to evacuate. Photographs of the catastrophe, which will probably go down as the most catastrophic in Los Angeles history, depict the cataclysmic level of devastation and misery it left behind.

Trump sentenced to penalty-free ‘unconditional discharge’ in hush money case

The president-elect was sentenced to an unconditional discharge by the New York judge who heard Donald Trump's hush money case on Friday. This means that, although he is now a convicted felon under New York state law, he will not be subject to any additional punishments. A somber Trump stated, "This has been a very terrible experience," while addressing the judge virtually from his Florida residence. He claimed that it was done to harm my reputation in order to cause me to lose the race. "I am completely innocent. He insisted, "I didn't do anything wrong." Ten days before Trump is scheduled to take the oath of office as the 47th president of the United States, he was sentenced. Before imposing his sentence, Judge Juan Merchan stated, "This court has never before been presented with such a ...
