Ashli Babbitt’s mother says Trump called her and told Jan. 6 rioters to ‘keep their chins up’
Washington According to the mother of a rioter who was slain during the attack on the U.S. Capitol, President-elect Donald Trump called her this week and told the defendants in the Jan. 6 incident that he loved them and advised them to "keep their chins up."
At a nightly vigil outside the D.C. jail on Wednesday in support of the Jan. 6 defendants, Ashli Babbit's mother, Micki Witthoeft, said that Trump had called her while she was in the back of an Uber with two other Jan. 6 defendant supporters, returning from placing flowers in her daughter's honor.
Witthoeft claims that when Trump was asked if he had a message for the defendants on January 6, he responded, "Tell them I love them, to keep their chins up."
