The robots haven’t taken over yet, but AI investments are powering more of the American economy

Investments in artificial intelligence are increasingly driving economic growth in the United States. These days, a lot of customers engage directly with AI through programs like ChatGPT or condensed search results on Google or Apple. Additionally, they might be coming to AI-generated images on social media. But the growth isn't being driven by that. Rather, it refers to the expenditures made to establish the infrastructure of electricity and raw computer power required to support those applications as well as any that may develop from them in the future. Consider the design of data centers, computer chips, information processing devices, and hardware for electrical transmission. According to Ed Yardeni, president of Yardeni Research, a market and economy consulting firm, AI has directly a...

Trump’s tariff plans loom over the year’s biggest electronics show

Big and small IT companies alike are presenting ambitious ideas for AI-powered goods that may soon find their way into our daily lives. Unless tariffs cause them to stumble. Weeks before Donald Trump returns to the White House on a campaign pledge to significantly increase tariffs, also known as import duties or levies, on goods entering the United States from overseas, the head of the Consumer Technology Association, which is hosting its annual electronics show in Las Vegas, has made that statement. The president-elect has pledged sweeping taxes of 10% to 20% on goods from almost every other nation, a 25% tariff on imports from Mexico and Canada, and surcharges of at least 60% on items arriving from China. Trump declared on the campaign trail that tariffs are the most beautiful word in th...

Shares of California utility Edison International drop more than 10% as wildfires rage

Shares of Edison International, whose Southern California Edison is the electricity utility for the areas immediately surrounding the city of Los Angeles, seem to be suffering from fear and uncertainty over the California wildfires. With Trump taking office, some Democrats and pro-immigration groups ponder new ideas on issue

Pro-immigrant organizations and some Democrats are pushing for measures that will shift the party to the right on immigration as President-elect Donald Trump gets ready to take office and implement what he has vowed will be the greatest deportation effort in American history. According to the move some are supporting, there would be an effort to reduce the amount of individuals entering the nation while also supporting the reworking of legal immigration paths based on humanitarian aid and economic needs. Similar concepts were put out by Democratic Representative Veronica Escobar of El Paso, Texas, and her Republican colleague, Representative Maria Salazar of Florida, in a 2023 bill called the Dignity Act. In addition to providing $25 billion for border security and requiring all employers ...
