According to Zandi, the economy is resilient. "I do believe there are some potential storms coming next year under the new administration," he continued. Top U.S. liquor distributor favored Costco, Kroger, other chains over small businesses: FTC

In a recent lawsuit, the Federal Trade Commission charges the biggest wine and spirits distributor in the United States with engaging in unlawful price discrimination, offering big-box retailers like Costco and Kroger significantly lower prices than those given to independent liquor stores, convenience stores, and local grocery stores. In announcing the lawsuit on Thursday, the FTC stated that Southern Glazer's Wine and Spirits, the distributor, is the tenth largest privately held corporation in the United States and will generate approximately $26 billion in revenue from sales to retail customers in 2023. According to the complaint, Southern denied smaller companies access to rebates and discounts, making it more difficult for them to compete with big national and local chain retailers. A...

The donation was confirmed by a corporate official, as published by The Wall Street Journal late on Wednesday evening. The donation is the most recent development in the erratic relationship between Trump and Mark Zuckerberg's business, his CEO. During this year's presidential campaign, Trump explicitly threatened Zuckerberg with life in prison if he did anything he believed to be unlawful. Last month, the two men enjoyed dinner at Trump's Mar-a-Lago club in Florida. Zuckerberg praised Trump's response to an assassination attempt in July, calling his raised fist following the shooting one of the most badass things I've ...

Wholesale prices rose 0.4% in November, more than expected

As concerns about whether the pace of progress in reducing inflation has slowed, a measure of wholesale prices increased more than anticipated in November, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said Thursday. In comparison to the Dow Jones consensus projection of 0.2%, the producer price index, or PPI, which gauges what producers receive for their goods at the final demand stage, grew by 0.4% for the month. PPI increased 3% annually, the largest increase since February 2023. But when food and energy were taken out of the equation, the core PPI rose by 0.2%, as predicted. Additionally, the PPI increase was only 0.1% once trade services were subtracted. Additionally, the 3.5% year-over-year gain was the most since February 2023. Trump Cabinet picks soften past statements amid Senate scrutiny, while others plunge ahead

The two powerful Trump allies who have been granted broad authority to suggest up to $2 trillion in federal spending cuts do not share the political concern of some of President-elect Donald Trump's most vulnerable Cabinet picks, who are rushing to erase or soften previous remarks before acrimonious Senate confirmation battles. The disparity highlights a crucial division that characterizes Trump's universe as it gets ready to seize control of the federal government. In the weeks since winning the election, the new president has been getting ready to fill important administrative positions with well-known conservative media personalities who have skillfully leveraged that environment to support his right-wing policy recommendations. However, some of those Cabinet picks are now being forced ...
