South Korean lawmakers seek president’s impeachment after 6-hour martial law declaration
South Korea's SEOUL After President Yoon Suk Yeolon startled the East Asian democracy by proclaiming martial law and then lifting it hours later under tremendous pressure, opposition MPs in South Korea sought to impeach him on Wednesday.
On Wednesday afternoon local time, six opposition parties—led by the Democratic Party, which controls the parliament—submitted articles of impeachment against Yoon in a swift response to what the Democratic Party claimed was an illegal and unconstitutional declaration of martial law by the Yoon administration.
