Trump’s pick to lead the DEA withdraws from consideration

President-elect Donald Trump's choice to head the Drug Enforcement Administration, Chad Chronister, announced on Tuesday that he will not be running for the position. Three days after Trump made the announcement, Chronister, the sheriff of Hillsborough County, Florida, declared he would decline his proposed nomination as the next DEA administrator. After former Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., withdrawn his candidacy for attorney general last month, he is the second Trump administration pick to remove his name from consideration. The father-in-law of Chronister, a veteran of the Florida police force, is Edward DeBartolo Jr., the former owner of the San Francisco 49ers. Hannah Kobayashi’s sister says family is unsatisfied with LAPD conclusion that she vanished voluntarily

The 30-year-old Hannah Kobayashi's sister stated on Tuesday that the police's determination that she is a "voluntary missing person" is unsatisfactory. Sydni Kobayashi, who appeared on Top Story with Tom Llamas alongside family attorney Sara Azari, stated that family members ought to have seen the video that Los Angeles Police Department Chief Jim McDonnell claimed at a press conference on Monday night depicts Hannah entering Mexico by herself on November 12 at a pedestrian port of entry in San Diego. According to McDonnell, the agency has categorized the case as one of voluntary detachment with no suspicion of foul play and there isn't much more it can do. "We're more frustrated and just as confused than anything right now," Sydni Kobayashi stated. Azari concurred, but questioned how the ...

Rep. Grace Meng to lead congressional Asian caucus, replacing longtime chair Judy Chu

Washington Rep. Judy Chu, D-Calif., who has served as the head of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus for more than a dozen years, will be replaced on Wednesday by Rep. Grace Meng, D-N.Y., Chu told NBC News Tuesday night. Meng, who has been a member of Congress since 2013, is running unopposed to succeed Chu as CAPAC's chair. Later on Wednesday, there will be an internal election. Meng serves as CAPAC's "first vice chair, so basically she has been put in a position to be able to take over, and I think she'll do a great job," Chu stated. Among the three minority caucuses, which also include the Congressional Black Caucus and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, CAPAC is the smallest. However, it has been a significant voice on topics like immigration reform, encouraging languag...

Telegram partners with child safety group to scan content for sexual abuse material

For the first time, Telegram, which has long been known as a site for trading content about child sexual abuse, has agreed to work with a bigger global watch organization to stop this kind of stuff. The cooperation with Telegram was revealed Tuesday by the U.K.-based Internet Watch Foundation, which keeps a database of known abuse imagery and offers digital companies tools to automatically report and delete it. After being arrested in August as part of a broader investigation that included claims of the platform's involvement in other unlawful activities, including the distribution of graphic photographs depicting the abuse of kids, Telegram's mysterious co-founder and CEO, Pavel Durov, is still free on bail in France. According to a news release from the IWF, the new relationship would en...

Measure to ban trans Montana lawmaker Zooey Zephyr from women’s bathroom fails

On Tuesday, a number of Republicans voted against a bill that would have prohibited Montana Representative Zooey Zephyr, the state's first transgender lawmaker, from using the women's facility at the state capitol. Republican state representative Jerry Schillinger submitted the proposed bill, which would have mandated that state lawmakers use the restrooms of the sex to which they were born. Ahead of Montana's upcoming legislative session in January, Schillinger stated during a meeting of the Montana Joint House and Senate regulations Committees on Tuesday that the legislation says things that probably shouldn't be said and puts things into regulations that probably shouldn't be placed into rules. With the Senate committee voting 11-7 in favor and the House committee voting 10-12 against, ...

A few bursts of vigorous movement a day may cut women’s heart risks, study says

According to research released on Tuesday, even tiny daily activity bursts can benefit the heart, particularly in women. According to a study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, small bursts of intense activity in daily life, like climbing stairs or lugging a bag of groceries to the car, can significantly increase the risk of heart disease in people who don't exercise. The study contributes to an expanding collection of data demonstrating the positive health effects of even little exercise. According to experts, it might be especially helpful in the United States, where the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate that 25% of Americans do not engage in any physical activity outside of work. Doc accused of abusing Indiana University basketball players found competent

Following a judge's decision that he was competent to be questioned regarding the alleged abuse, the 88-year-old doctor who is accused of sexually assaulting Indiana University basketball players in the 1990s will be deposed on Wednesday. Following the doctor's interrogation at the federal courthouse in Indianapolis, Magistrate Judge Mario Garcia stated in a ruling on Tuesday that Dr. Bradford Bomba Sr. was able to correctly distinguish between the truth and a falsehood. According to court documents dated November 27, Bomba's guardian, Joseph Bomba, requested that the deposition be postponed, claiming that the former IU team doctor is unable of testifying because he lacks the mental capacity to distinguish between truth and falsity. Garcia then delivered the decision. The judge didn't agre...
