JonBenét Ramsey’s father insists his daughter’s 28-year-old murder will still be solved

The father of JonBen Ramsey, who said on Thursday that he welcomed the fresh pop culture spotlight on the nearly 28-year-old murder, still holds out hope that his daughter's killer will be apprehended. According to 80-year-old John Ramsey, police in Boulder, Colorado, can use new DNA technology to investigate the murder that attracted international notice around Christmas 1996. Ramsey said, "So we want to keep the case alive and in front of people," on the "TODAY" program on NBC. "If the cops accept assistance from outside their system, I think it can be resolved. For twenty-five years, that has been the fault. Ramsey appeared on "TODAY" alongside Joe Berlinger, the director of Cold Case: Who Killed JonBen T. HBO says ‘Harry Potter’ series will ‘benefit’ from J.K. Rowling’s involvement

Numerous actors from the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts films, including Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, and Eddie Redmayne, immediately spoke out in favor of trans and nonbinary rights and identity when J.K. Rowling first came out in June 2020 about her belief that transgender women are men and transgender men are women. MuggleNet and The Leaky Cauldron, two of the largest Harry Potter fan communities, condemned Rowling's opinions and cut off communication with the author's upcoming projects. While excluding Rowling and trans and nonbinary individuals, Warner Bros. released a well-crafted statement stating that "a diverse and inclusive culture has never been more important to our company and to our audiences around the world." This statement at least created a rhetorical s...

House Oversight Committee says it plans to form a subcommittee for Trump’s ‘Department of Government Efficiency’

Washington Republican members of the House Oversight Committee said Thursday that they will form a subcommittee to collaborate with Vivek Ramaswamy and Elon Musk on President-elect Donald Trump's newly announced advisory group, the "Department of Government Efficiency." In a post on X, the GOP-controlled panel stated that Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., will serve as the chair of the subcommittee, which would be established for the upcoming Congress beginning in January. The subcommittee would "align with the Trump administration's priorities to eliminate government waste, streamline the federal government's operations, and cut red tape that's stifling jobs and increasing costs for the American people," said James Comer, R-Ky., chairman of the Oversight Committee, in an interview wit...

ICC issues arrest warrants for Israeli PM Netanyahu and ex-defense minister Gallant for alleged war crimes in Gaza

On Thursday, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Hamas military chief Mohammed Deif, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity. The Israeli military's year-long attack on the Palestinian enclave has killed 44,000 people, according to local health experts, and the ICC charged Netanyahu and Gallant of a series of human rights violations in the Gaza Strip. The warrants sparked a fierce response from Israel, with Netanyahu's office denouncing the ICC as a "biased and discriminatory political body," calling the decision "antisemitic," and dismissing the claims as "absurd and false." The court's ruling "remains limited and symbolic if it is not supported by all countries around ...

Police report details alleged sexual assault by Trump’s defense pick Pete Hegseth

According to official records of a police investigation unsealed in California on Wednesday night, a lady told police she was sexually assaulted by a man she identified as Pete Hegseth, the defense secretary nominee of President-elect Donald Trump. According to documents made public by the Monterey Police Department, the lady, who is only known as "Jane Doe," first saw Hegseth in 2017 while he was speaking at an event held at a Monterey hotel. Hegseth denied any misconduct and was not charged. When Hegseth acknowledged paying an undisclosed sum as part of a settlement deal with his accuser, the accusations surfaced last weekend. Timothy Parlatore, Hegseth's lawyer, told NBC News that his client is not the victim of sexual assault. Despite the fact that Mr. Hegseth is innocent, she was the ...

Icelandic volcano erupts for seventh time in a year

The Icelandic capital, Avolcanonear, erupted late on Wednesday for the eighth time in a year, releasing smoke and lava fountains, according to the country's meteorological service. However, neither infrastructure nor air traffic were affected. At 11:14 p.m. local time on Wednesday, the eruption began without much notice and formed a fissure that was just under two miles long. According to Iceland's meteorological service, which keeps an eye on seismic activity, the activity is expected to be significantly less than the previous eruption in August. Luminous hot lava with vivid yellow and orange hues was seen shooting up into the night sky in social media livestreams from the region. Just forty-five minutes before a huge ground crack was created by magma pushing through the earth's crust, th...

The international court announced that it had issued warrants for both Netanyahu and Gallant, who were sacked by the Israeli prime minister last month for the country's attack on the Gaza Strip, after rejecting Israel's claims to its authority. The president of Israel reacted angrily, calling it "a dark day for humanity" and a "outrageous decision." The warrants, according to a top Hamas leader, demonstrated that "international justice is with us." The announcement was made as local officials said that 44,000 people had died in the Palestinian enc...
