Trump wins Arizona, flipping a swing state Biden won in 2020

President-elect Donald Trump has won Arizona, NBC News projects, putting its 11 electoral votes in his column after he narrowly lost the state to President Joe Biden in 2020. Trump’s projected victory over Vice President Kamala Harris comes after years of a shifting political landscape in the Sun Belt state, following Trump’s victory over Hillary Clinton by 4 points in 2016. Since then, the once firmly GOP-controlled state has put into office a Democratic governor, two Democratic senators and other statewide elected officials. A fast-growing Latino population and a revolt against Trump among some old-line Republicans put the once-red state into battleground territory. And Biden’s 2020 win in Arizona was just the second time in 28 years that Arizona’s electoral votes went to the Democ...

Wildfires rage across the Northeast as 27 million people remain under fire alerts

Wind gusts and low humidity are helping to fuel wildfires burning across the Northeast, with cities in the region on high alert Saturday. Red flag warnings — which indicate an increased risk of fire danger due to warm temperatures, very low humidity, and stronger winds — had been in effect for some Northeastern cities through Saturday afternoon. A number of cities in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island will be under a red flag warning between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. Vegetation in the area remains very dry. The region is about 6 to 8 inches behind on rainfall since Sept. 1. A cold front is expected to pass through the region Sunday, bringing up to 1 inch of rain. A brush fire in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park burned ove...

Bobby Allison, NASCAR Hall of Famer and 3-time Daytona 500 winner, dies at 86

Bobby Allison, founder of racing’s “Alabama Gang” and a NASCAR Hall of Famer, died Saturday. He was 86. NASCAR released a statement from Allison’s family that said he died at home in Mooresville, North Carolina. A cause of death wasn’t given, but Allison had been in declining health for years. Allison moved to fourth on NASCAR’s Cup Series victory list last month when chairman Jim France recognized him as the winner of the Meyers Brothers Memorial at Bowman Gray Stadium in North Carolina in 1971. The sanctioning body updated its record books to reflect the decision, giving Allison 85 wins and moving him out of a tie with Darrell Waltrip. France and longtime NASCAR executive Mike Helton presented Allison with a plaque commemorating the victory. With it, Allison trails only f...

Every uncalled race left in the fight for control in Washington

Former President Donald Trump has clinched a second term in the White House, and his Republican Party has won control of the Senate. But control of the House of Representatives is still up for grabs, as is the size of the incoming Senate majority. In the fight for the House, Democrats are facing an uphill climb to net the four seats needed to flip the chamber, while Republicans only need to win a handful more competitive races to hold onto the majority. With more than a dozen House races still uncalled and many looking close, Democrats would need to hang onto all of their competitive seats and flip a few Republican-held seats to get to the 218 seats needed for the majority. With votes still being counted, here's a look at the key races that remain uncalled by the NBC News Decision De...

Democratic Sen. Jacky Rosen wins re-election in Nevada

Democratic Sen. Jacky Rosen has won re-election in Nevada, NBC News projects, defeating Republican Sam Brown and holding on to an important seat for her party in a swing state. The victory gives the first-term Rosen another six years in the Senate , continuing Democrats’ winning streak in a state that has become increasingly competitive on the federal level. In a victory speech delivered at a Teamsters location in Las Vegas on Saturday, Rosen thanked her supporters and said that she is "proud to be one of the most bipartisan, independent, and effective senators," adding, "That's not going to stop." "No matter how anyone cast their vote this election, I represent all Nevadans, and I've shown that in my work," she said. While the polls showed a tight race for the president...

Police arrest naked man living in crawl space of Southern California home

Police arrested a naked man in the crawl space underneath the El Sereno, California, home of a 93-year-old woman Friday morning. Los Angeles police said they spent hours trying to get the man out before having to resort to tear gas, causing a huge commotion in the neighborhood and forcing the people living inside the home to have to find somewhere else to sleep. The unsettling incident took place after the woman and her family had reported hearing strange noises for weeks. “It was usually late at night, and we just chucked it off to animals being under the house,” said Ricardo Silva, the woman's son-in-law. However, on Thursday night, Silva said the noise got louder. “The noises were kind of like knocking. It was kind of like, as my wife was walking, they were kind of...
