Delphi murders: Richard Allen is found guilty of killing Indiana teens in 2017

The former CVS clerk charged in the 2017 killing of two middle school girls was convicted of murder Monday in a case that shook the small Indiana town of Delphi. The jury’s decision came after a four-week trial in which Richard Allen, 52, pleaded not guilty to murder charges in the Feb. 13, 2017 slayings of close friends Abigail Williams, 13, and Liberty German, 14. Allen is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 20. A gag order remained in effect after the verdict, NBC affiliate WTHR of Indianapolis reported. A spokesperson for Indiana State Police, which investigated the killings, declined to comment because of the order, according to the station. "This isn't over at all," Allen's wife tearfully told reporters, WTHR reported. The jury heard from dozens of witnesses who t...

Pitchfork cancels its Chicago music festival after 19 years

Pitchfork announced that its annual Chicago music festival would not return in 2025. In an announcement on social media and on its website, the music publication said it made the decision after assessing the rapidly evolving "music festival landscape." It did not elaborate further. "This decision was not made lightly," Pitchfork wrote. “For 19 years, Pitchfork Music Festival has been a celebration of music, art, and community—a space where memories were made, voices were amplified, and the shared love of music brought us all together." The news comes following major changes at the publication this year. In January, the magazine's parent company Condé Nast merged the publication with men’s magazine GQ, according to Variety . The merger resulted in layoffs. R...

Washington, D.C., kosher restaurant vandalized on anniversary of Kristallnacht

Char Bar, a kosher restaurant in D.C., was vandalized by having two of its windows smashed on Saturday, police say. No one broke into the establishment. Since the incident, the restaurant’s windows have been boarded up. “Just the idiocy of people — that was my first reaction,” said Michael Chelst, the owner of Char Bar. “Like, really? You don’t have anything better to do with your lives than to waste energy and time and people’s money to do what? We’re just a restaurant here.” Chelst said what was most concerning to him was when the crime happened. The vandalism comes on the 86th anniversary of Kristallnacht. Kristallnacht is called the “night of broken glass” because thousands of Jewish homes, businesses and places of worship were destroyed by German Nazis. Around 90 Jewish...

NYC Mayor Eric Adams requests earlier trial in order to ‘fully participate’ in reelection campaign

New York City Mayor Eric Adams asked a judge on Monday to set an earlier trial date in his federal corruption case next year, arguing the current date would impede Adams’ participation in his mayoral reelection campaign, according to court documents. In a letter to the court, Adams’ lawyer, Alex Spiro, requested the trial to begin weeks earlier on April 1, rather than later that month. Spiro said the current late-May conclusion of the trial would take place one month before ballots are cast in the Democratic primary and sideline Adams "for the vast majority of his remaining reelection campaign, during many of the most important moments.” “An earlier trial date will ensure that Mayor Adams’s speedy trial rights are upheld, that the Mayor will be able to fully participate ...

The jury’s decision came after a four-week trial in which Richard Allen, 52, pleaded not guilty to murder charges in the Feb. 13, 2017 slayings of close friends Abigail Williams, 13, and Liberty German, 14. The pair had been hanging out at Monon High Bridge Trail in Delphi, north of Indianapolis, when prosecutors said Allen used “power and fear" to force them down a hill and cut their throats. During his closing argument Thursday, Carroll County Prosecutor Nick McLeland identified Allen as "the bridge guy" — a man seen in a Snapchat video walking on a then-abandoned bridge along the trail. The video w...
