Skulls found on New Mexico property not related to missing woman case

The Lea County Sheriff's Office stated Thursday that skulls discovered on a New Mexico property earlier this month were acquired online and had nothing to do with the investigation of a lady who vanished in 2019. As reported by the sheriff's office, a man with two bags who had been given a ride by someone in the county "made alarming statements and discarded objects from the vehicle, some of which appeared to be human bones." According to the sheriff's office last week, human remains were discovered following a search of a property connected to the man in Jal, a city of around 2,000 people in the state's southeast. "Investigators have determined that the skulls were procured online," the office said Thursday, adding that additional inquiry revealed the seven recovered skulls contained carv...

Trump’s transition team turns to Project 2025 after disavowing it during the campaign

After Democrats attacked his campaign, President-elect Donald Trump and his allies disavowed the conservative Project 2025 during the election, viewing the conservative transition plan and policy blueprint as a problem. Some close to Trump even implied that anybody involved in the attempt would not be allowed to serve in a future government. The co-chair of Trump's transition and his choice to be Commerce Secretary, Howard Lutnick, told CNBC in September that they had made themselves nuclear. However, Trump's transition team is looking to Project 2025 to assist in staffing the incoming administration now that the campaign is over. According to an individual with knowledge of the matter who spoke to NBC News, transition officials are already soliciting recommendations for possible hiring fr...

Denzel Washington commands ancient Rome and movie theaters with ‘Gladiator II’

The fact that Denzel Washington is excellent is not the main surprise in Gladiator II. Rather, it's how important his character Macrinus is to the eagerly anticipated follow-up, which stars Paul Mescal as the heir to Russell Crowe's legendary Maximus. In the sequel, Mescal's character, Lucius—the grandson of an emperor and the son of a legendary warrior—steps into his destiny. However, Macrinus from Washington is the one who advances Gladiator II. In this epic about the Roman Empire, Macrinus is much more than just a villain; he is a saboteur and an opportunist. Those who are abducted as slaves are made to fight in front of an audience in an arena with the dire consequences of killing or dying. Washington told NBC News that his ultimate goal is to conquer the entire world. Macrinus leans i...

‘Good luck, Gus’: Emperor penguin found in Australia is released back into the wild

The Australian government said on Friday that the first emperor penguin discovered in the country has been released following 20 days under the care of a wildlife specialist. According to the state's Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions, the bird, known by its caretaker as Gus, was released from a boat off the southern coast of Western Australia on Wednesday morning. It stated in a statement that it was urgent to get it back into the ocean so it could self-thermoregulate because warmer weather was approaching. Under the care of seabird rehabilitator Carol Biddulph and her husband, a veterinarian, the bird, which was underweight when discovered on a well-known tourist beach on November 1, gained more than seven pounds. According to the statement, the Antarctic bird, whic...
