Trump taps former Rep. Lee Zeldin to lead the Environmental Protection Agency

President-elect Donald Trump on Monday selected former Rep. Lee Zeldin of New York to oversee the Environmental Protection Agency in his administration. In a statement announcing the appointment, Trump described the former four-term House Republican from Long Island as "a true fighter for America First policies." "He will ensure fair and swift deregulatory decisions that will be enacted in a way to unleash the power of American businesses, while at the same time maintaining the highest environmental standards, including the cleanest air and water on the planet," Trump said. "He will set new standards on environmental review and maintenance, that will allow the United States to grow in a healthy and well-structured way." Zeldin said it was "an honor to join Pre...

Senate Republican leadership fight becomes a proxy for MAGA influence under Trump

WASHINGTON — A looming battle among Senate Republicans over who to pick as their next majority leader is turning into an early test of how much power President-elect Donald Trump's “MAGA” movement will exert in his second term. The three-way fight to replace outgoing Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., pits Senate Minority Whip John Thune, R-S.D., against Sen. John Cornyn, a former McConnell deputy, and underdog candidate Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla. The battle will gauge the staying power of long-serving senior Republicans grounded in an institutionalist view of the Senate, like Thune and Cornyn, against an emboldened pro-Trump wing looking to smash any vestiges of the old GOP as he returns to power. Scott's seeking to claim the latter mantle and told NBC News in an inter...

Sean Combs’ former bodyguard sues woman who accused them both of sexual assault

A former body guard for Sean Combs has filed a defamation lawsuit against a woman who in September accused him of physically and sexually assaulting her in 2001. Joseph Sherman called the allegations in Thalia Graves’ lawsuit “utterly and entirely false,” in documents filed Thursday in federal court in Manhattan. He is also suing Graves’ attorneys, including Gloria Allred. Both women spoke at a news conference to discuss the lawsuit in September. They declined comment Monday. Graves alleged in her lawsuit that in 2001 both Combs and Sherman sexually assaulted her at the embattled music mogul’s recording studio in Manhattan after she was summoned to a meeting with Combs to discuss her then-boyfriend’s work performance at the Bad Boy record label. Combs, she said in th...

Wisconsin officials believe kayaker missing since summer faked his death and is in Europe

Officials in Wisconsin believe that a man who disappeared after kayaking at a lake this summer is alive and well, possibly faking his death and traveling to Europe — after taking out a life insurance policy and communicating with a woman from Uzbekistan. Ryan Borgwardt — a married father of two — went missing on Aug. 12 and his last known location was Green Lake, Green Lake County Sheriff Mark Podoll said during a news briefing Friday. Deputies found a capsized kayak in the lake and Borgwardt's vehicle and trailer parked in Dodge Memorial County Park, Podoll said. A fishing rod identified by Borgwardt's wife as belonging to him and a tackle box containing his wallet, license and keys were also found, according to Podoll. Search and recovery volunteer organization Bruce's Legacy he...

Bears coach Matt Eberflus says ‘there will be changes’ to offense after recent struggles

The Chicago Bears haven’t scored a touchdown in two weeks and have lost three straight games, and while head coach Matt Eberflus says changes are being weighed, he won’t announce them just yet. During his Monday press conference at Halas Hall, Eberflus said that the team is going to make “changes and adjustments,” but said the team is still weighing those options. “There’s got to be a change and adjustment,” he said. “There’s also the sight that we’re 4-5, we haven’t played our division yet. We’re in the process of getting (that evaluation) done. There will be changes and adjustments being made.” One of those changes could very well be their offensive playcalling duties, as Eberflus changed course from his concrete stance on the status of offensive coordinator Shane Waldron.
