13 research monkeys remain at large as S.C. authorities announce 5 more captured

Thirteen research monkeys were on the loose Monday after five more of the 43 that escaped from a research lab in South Carolina last week were captured unharmed, authorities said. The discoveries Monday — first there were three, then two more — mean 13 of the Rhesus macaques remain outside the Alpha Genesis Primate Research Center in the town of Yemassee. In a statement, Yemassee police cited Alpha Genesis CEO Greg Westergaard for news of the day's discoveries. "Additional primates have been successfully recovered today, all appearing to be in good health," the police department said. Over the weekend, police said, 25 of the escaped monkeys had been captured safely. A group of the monkeys had amassed along the facility's fence line, where many had bedded...

Lai, 76, the founder of the now-defunct pro-democracy tabloid Apple Daily , has pleaded not guilty to three charges of sedition and collusion with foreign forces in a landmark national security trial that is widely seen as a test of Hong Kong’s press freedom and judicial independence. He faces possible life imprisonment. Emperor penguin found 2,000 miles from home on Australian tourist beach

A malnourished emperor penguin that was found more than 2,000 miles from its icy Antarctic home is being been taken care of by a wildlife expert, the Australian government said Monday. The adult male penguin was found on a popular tourist beach in the town of Denmark in southwestern Australia on Nov. 1, according to the Western Australia state’s Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions. “The penguin appeared to be malnourished and was removed from the beach to avoid potential threats,” it said in a statement. Authorities said it was unclear why the penguin had ventured some 2,200 miles north of the waters off the Antarctic coast. It was the first time that an emperor, the largest penguin species, is known to have reached Australia. Seabird reh...

Yang didn’t name the host, setting off rounds of speculation about who it was. Fineman said in a video, which has since been deleted from TikTok, that the backstory involved her and Musk. “I’m gonna come out and say, at long last, that I’m the cast member that he made cry and he’s the host that made someone cry,” she said in the video. China military displays upgraded Z-20 helicopter at Zhuhai air show

HONG KONG — With sleek looks mirroring the U.S. UH-60 Black Hawk, the Chinese military’s advanced Z-20 helicopter packs a punch but may make its biggest impact at sea, analysts said as it was displayed at China ’s biggest air show in Zhuhai on Tuesday. The Z-20’s potential at sea to plug gaps in the Chinese navy’s ability to protect itself from submarines is attracting scrutiny from regional defense attaches and security scholars charting its evolution after a decade of development. State media recently highlighted the first armed assault version of the helicopter, and on Tuesday, the military showcased the Z-20J armed naval variant — a key step toward a full-blown anti-submarine platform, the Z-20F. Although China is fielding ever-more advanced warships as pa...
