Chaos at Jamestown Residence Leads to Arrests and Child Welfare Investigation

(WNY News Now) – Two individuals were arrested on a combined 10 counts of child endangerent after police responded to a drunken domestic dispute.

Jamestown, N.Y. – Officers from the Jamestown Police Department responded to a 911 call on November 15, 2024, at approximately 4:17 p.m., reporting a domestic altercation at a west side residence. A young child had called, citing a fight inside the home.

Upon arrival, officers encountered Nekyle R. Taylor, 31, on the front porch, locked out of the residence by Chelsey L. Durnell, 30. Inside, two visibly distressed children, ages 4 and 7, were present. Investigators determined that both adults, heavily intoxicated, had engaged in a physical altercation in front of the children.

As officers attempted to arrest Durnell, she resisted, leading to a struggle that caused an officer to fall down a porch with Durnell landing on top of them. Fortunately, the officer sustained no serious injuries, and Durnell was eventually subdued and taken into custody.

Taylor was arrested without incident. Both suspects face charges including Endangering the Welfare of a Child (10 counts combined), Unlawful Imprisonment, Resisting Arrest, and Reckless Endangerment.

The children were placed in the care of a family member, and both Durnell and Taylor were arraigned in Jamestown City Court before being released with court appearances scheduled. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
