Chicago Man Arrested for Felony Assault of Elderly Shopper at Jamestown Grocery Store

(WNY News Now) – A 20-year-old Chicago resident faces felony charges after an alleged assault on an elderly man inside a Tops Markets store in Jamestown.

Jamestown, N.Y. – On November 2, 2024, at approximately 3:49 p.m., Jamestown Police responded to a reported assault at the Tops Markets located at 738 Foote Ave. Upon arrival, officers encountered an elderly male victim with visible physical injuries, being treated by Al-Star ambulance staff on the scene.

Through investigation, officers identified 20-year-old Lanell S. Williams, a Chicago resident, as the alleged assailant. According to police, Williams engaged in an altercation with the elderly victim, leading to a physical assault that left the victim injured.

Officers located Williams shortly afterward at a residence within Jamestown city limits. He was subsequently taken into custody without incident and transported to the city jail. The injured victim was taken to UPMC for further treatment. The extent of the injuries has not been disclosed.

Williams has been charged with Assault in the Second Degree, a felony offense, due to the severity of the alleged attack on a vulnerable individual. He is currently held at the Jamestown City Jail, awaiting arraignment in Jamestown City Court. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
