Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes week-to-week with ankle injury: Reports

According to NBC Sports and NFL Network, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is expected to be sidelined for the foreseeable future due to a high ankle sprain he sustained on Sunday.

Carson Wentz took Mahomes’ position after the Chiefs defeated the Cleveland Browns 21–7 in the fourth quarter. When the game was over, he was clearly limping off the field.

Patrick, he has a sore right ankle. After the game, Kansas City coach Andy Reid stated, “It’s sore, but it’s not broken.” As we proceed, he will begin the rehabilitation portion, and we will simply need to observe his progress. Literally, it will be day-to-day. Most likely, he may have returned inside. He desired to return inside. That wasn’t necessary.

After he felt he could have played again, Mahomes stated that it was wise to let Wentz finish.

With the win, the Chiefs’ record rose to 13-1. Although they are two games ahead of the Buffalo Bills for the AFC title, they will play their next two games inside the next ten days.

Kansas City’s next games are against the Houston Texans on Saturday and the Pittsburgh Steelers on Christmas.

Mahomes has previously persevered through a high ankle sprain. The injury occurred during a Divisional Round playoff game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in January 2023. After missing a quarter of that game, he came back to play the rest of the playoffs, helping the Chiefs win the Super Bowl.

Mahomes completed 19 of 38 passes for 159 yards and two touchdowns at the end of Sunday’s game. Mahomes has thrown for 3,348 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions so far this season.
