Fort Mill, South Carolina For the Fort Mill region, the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory and a Cold Weather Advisory. Extremely cold temperatures are forecast by the NWS for Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. through Wednesday, January 22, at noon. Wind chills as low as 7 degrees below zero are predicted, while temperatures are predicted to dip to a low of 17 degrees. Additionally, there is a 30% chance of snow, primarily before 9 p.m. Temperatures are predicted to peak at 32 degrees on Wednesday and drop to 14 degrees on Wednesday evening.
Use the following advice to keep oneself warm during these high temperatures:
- Wearing several layers of loose fitting, lightweight clothing rather than one layer of heavy clothing.
- Mittens are warmer than gloves, and always wear a hat and scarf if possible.
- Keep your car fueled to avoid ice in the tank and fuel lines.
- Check on friends, family and neighbors, especially those who are most vulnerable to extreme temperatures.
- Don t forget about pets and livestock. Make sure they have access to water that will not freeze and that they have a warm place to take shelter.
