Consumer Alert: AG Henry Warns Pennsylvanians of Potential Big Lots Store Closures Amid Bankruptcy

(WNY News Now) HARRISBURGA Due to the company’s ongoing Chapter 11 bankruptcy procedures, Pennsylvania shoppers are being warned by Attorney General Michelle Henry that all 64 Big Lots locations in the state may close.

As part of the bankruptcy process, Big Lots, one of the biggest bargain stores in the United States, said that its remaining stores would close. Residents of Pennsylvania may be impacted by these closures, especially those who depend on the retailer’s steeply discounted merchandise.

What Consumers Need to Know

Attorney General Henry suggests the following actions for consumers in view of these developments:

Big Lots was previously permitted by a federal bankruptcy court to have going-out-of-business sales at all of its remaining locations, beginning on December 20, 2024.

A revised deadline of Friday, January 31, 2025 has been set by the bankruptcy court for customers who could have claims against Big Lots to submit a Proof of Claim.

Customers are strongly advised to speak with a private lawyer to make sure their rights are upheld during the ongoing bankruptcy process.

By visiting the Delaware Bankruptcy Court’s website at https://www.deb.uscourts.gov/claims-information, consumers can electronically submit a Proof of Claim.or by visiting https://cases.ra.kroll.com/biglots/EPOC-Index, the website of the bankruptcy administrator.

Customers could complain to the Bureau of Consumer Protection if they believe that Big Lots closures or the bankruptcy process have affected them. Customers can file complaints online or call the office’s Consumer Protection Hotline at 1-800-441-2555 for more help. Those who have complained will receive updates from the Bureau on the progress of Big Lots’ bankruptcy case.
