At the heart of it all is a message of unity and resilience. “We cannot live in fear,” said Mayor Muriel Bowser, addressing concerns about safety and public preparedness amid today’s tense political climate. “We have to live our lives and be as prepared as we can.”
A Global Celebration Comes to D.C.
WorldPride, hosted this year by Capital Pride Alliance, will mark the first time the global event takes place in the nation’s capital. It will include a range of high-profile performances—Shakira and Doechii are among the headliners—and more than 100 events centered around LGBTQ+ pride, human rights, and cultural diversity.
Organizers are coordinating with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), federal agencies, and local partners to ensure safety throughout the multi-week celebration.
Unprecedented Security Measures in Place
D.C. is no stranger to hosting large-scale events, but officials acknowledge that the size and political symbolism of WorldPride make it a unique undertaking.
The city plans to implement:

While security officials say there are no credible threats against WorldPride, concerns about political tensions and hate crimes have prompted public forums and online briefings. In recent webinars hosted by Capital Pride Alliance, city leaders assured LGBTQ+ residents and allies that extensive efforts are in place to protect their right to celebrate openly.

Accessibility, Transit, and Updates
To support the influx of visitors, Metro service hours will be extended until 2 a.m. on June 6 and 7, particularly to accommodate late-night festival and concert goers.
In addition to expanded transit, the city is deploying additional signage, public restrooms, hydration stations, and disability access services. Ride-sharing zones will be marked to manage traffic flow and reduce congestion around high-density areas like the National Mall, Dupont Circle, and Pennsylvania Avenue NW.
