Austin Tice s mom says discovery of another missing American in Syria feels like rehearsal

On NBC News Meet the Press, Debra Tice stated that she is aware her son Austin, who was arrested in Syria in 2012, is still alive.

“The discovery of American citizen Travis Timmerman in Syria last was almost like having a rehearsal… of what it’s going to really feel like when Austin walks free,” Tice said on Meet the Press on Sunday. She explained the volume of congratulations that were sent to the family that day by people who thought Timmerman was Austin Tice.

While covering Syria’s civil turmoil in 2012, Austin Tice vanished from sight.

Thousands of inmates have been released since the overthrow of the Assad administration, but it is still unknown where Tice was detained and if he has been released. As recently as July 2022, a former inmate informed NBC News that he had been held captive in a cell across the hall from Tice for the past few weeks.

The anguish endured by Tice’s family last month was attributed to Assad by the new leadership of Syria’s opposition government. According to a government official, efforts to find Tice have been unsuccessful thus far.

Debra Tice stated that although her son has not yet been discovered, she is still optimistic that he will be and that her family is as happy as the Timmerman family.

Schumer urges for drone detection system for New York and New Jersey

After a number of drones were sighted in recent weeks, even causing a temporary shutdown at an airport over the weekend, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer asked that a drone detection device be brought to New York and New Jersey. Two days after New York Stewart International Airport closed due to drone sightings in the area, Schumer submitted the request to the Department of Homeland Security.

Because of their 360-degree technology, he argued that Robin Radar Systems had a higher possibility of identifying drones than linear systems. Despite the number of sightings, Schumer told reporters, “it’s remarkable that we have more questions than answers.”

According to Schumer, only government authorities are currently legally permitted to detect drones. According to him, he will also be advocating for legislation that would allow state and local law enforcement organizations to utilize software to identify unmanned aerial vehicles.

Highlights from Week 15 of the NFL

On NBC’s Sunday Night Football, the Green Bay Packers upset the Seattle Seahawks in a matchup between postseason candidates.Additionally, the Philadelphia Eagles won their tenth straight game, defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers, their in-state foe, 27–13. Greg Rosenstein, sports editor for NBC News, provides further highlights:

Thanks to the effective play of quarterback Jordan Love, who threw for 229 yards and two touchdowns without any turnovers, Green Bay dominated from the outset. The Seahawks dropped to 8-6 and finished second in the NFC West behind the Los Angeles Rams, while the Packers advanced to 10-4 on the season. Additionally, Seattle will wait to learn more about quarterback Geno Smith, who departed the game due to a knee injury in the third quarter.

The Buffalo Bills defeated the Detroit Lions 48–42, securing the title of Super Bowl favorites. Josh Allen, the quarterback for Buffalo and MVP leader, maintained his recent domination by rushing for 68 yards and two touchdowns and passing for 362 yards and two touchdowns. In addition to being the first player in NFL history to score two running touchdowns and two passing touchdowns in a same game, he is also the first person to accomplish so three times in a single season. In the defeat, Detroit quarterback Jared Goff threw for 494 yards and five touchdowns.

Only five players at the position since 1950 have had three 10-game winning streaks in their careers, including Philadelphia quarterback Jalen Hurts, who had two separate 11-game winning streaks from 2021–22 and 2022–23. Despite the defeat, the Steelers were still guaranteed a postseason berth because of Week 15 defeats to Miami and Indianapolis.

Despite their 21-7 victory over the Cleveland Browns, the Kansas City Chiefs might be without their star quarterback Patrick Mahomes for a while. According to sources, the back-to-back Super Bowl champions sustained a high ankle sprain in the fourth quarter and will be sidelined for the rest of the season. Over the next ten days, Kansas City (13-1) will play two games, one of which will be on Christmas.
