Delta Airlines flight attendant allegedly slashes co-worker in New Orleans

After a late night and early morning of heavy, blacked-out drinking, an airline flight attendant cut a hotel security guard and coworker, officials said Wednesday.

In connection with the violent Monday morning incident, Joshua Smith, 36, was still being held in a New Orleans jail on Wednesday. He faces multiple charges of assault and battery, as well as one count of attempted second-degree murder, according to the authorities.

According to a statement from New Orleans police, Smith began arguing with the victim while he and a few other colleagues were making their way back to their hotel along the river.

According to authorities, the suspect cut the victim twice in the arm and once on the neck after an altercation broke out after the victim accompanied him to his room. The suspect followed the victim as she moved to a different floor of the hotel to get assistance.

According to authorities, the suspect sliced the security guard’s thumb when he tried to step in.

Although Smith was charged with attempted murder, defense attorney Thomas Calogero stated that when the case gets to the prosecutors, his client shouldn’t be prosecuted with that offense.

The lawyer stated, “I don’t think there was an intent to murder.”

Calogero said the call at the end of Poydras Street at 3 a.m. followed a night of heavy partying in the Big Easy.

According to the lawyer, he had blacked out while the party was drinking. Smith has absolutely no recollection of the episode.

The Association of Flight Attendants and Delta representatives were not immediately available for comment on Wednesday.

“I don’t think my client will ever be able to work as a flight attendant again,” Calogero added.

Not in my opinion. According to the lawyer, “I’m sure he’s going to lose his job at Delta.” I anticipate that he will.
