Demi Moore takes home Golden Globe for ‘The Substance,’ her first major acting award

Demi Moore won a Golden Globe for best feature actress in a musical or comedy for her lead in the body-horror movie “The Substance.” This was possibly the most unexpected Golden Globe win of the morning.

Moore faced some formidable contenders in the category, including Cynthia Erivo in “Wicked” and Karla Sof a Gasc n in “Emilia P rez.”

The “Ghost” and “A Few Good Men” actress seemed astonished to win the prize, admitting that it was the first significant acting honor she had ever won in her illustrious career.

Moore remembered in a stirring winning speech that thirty years ago, a producer had called her a “popcorn actress.”

“I implied that this was something I didn’t permit to possess. that I was unable to receive recognition while making successful films. “I believed that and I bought in,” Moore added.

She claimed that this way of thinking “corroded me over time” to the point where, only a few years ago, she believed her career was ended. In addition, she has won four Razzies over her career—dubious accolades that made fun of a number of the movies she featured in.

“Maybe this was it, maybe that this was complete, that I’ve done what I’m supposed to do,” Moore remembered thinking.

Moore claimed that during that dark moment, she “had this magical, bold, courageous, out of the box, absolutely bonkers script come across my desk called ‘The Substance,’ and the universe told me, ‘you’re not done.'”

Yes, the universe was correct.

“The Substance” centers on Elisabeth Sparkle (Moore), a disgraced actress who loses her long-standing position as a TV fitness instructor due to her age.

When given the chance to use drugs to show off a better version of herself, Sparkle does so, giving rise to Sue (Margaret Qualley), a younger, hotter, and hence more successful version of herself who tries to take over her predecessor’s life.

Naturally, things go wrong.

When Moore didn’t trust in herself, she made sure to take the time to thank Qualley, director Coralie Fargeat, and those who had faith in her.

“In these moments when we don’t think we’re smart enough or pretty enough or skinny enough or successful [enough] … or basically just not enough, I had a woman say to me, ‘Just know you will never be enough, but you can know the value of your worth if you just put down the measuring stick,'” Moore stated.

She went on: “Today, I celebrate this as a marker of my wholeness and of the love that is driving me and for the gift of doing something I love and being reminded that I do belong.”

After the stunning victory, Glaser offered his thoughts on Moore’s “comeback.”

“Comebacks have been discussed a lot, correct? “Like Demi Moore and Pamela Anderson, who just won,” Glaser started.

It turns out that a woman over 50 playing a leading role is referred to as making a ‘comeback.’ Congratulations if you’re a man over 50 in a leading role. You’re going to portray the boyfriend of Sydney Sweeney.
