WASHINGTON — Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman, a Democrat, has announced that he will meet with Donald Trump, the incoming president.
I accepted President Trump’s invitation to meet. Fetterman stated in a statement, “I am the senator for all Pennsylvanians, not just Democrats in Pennsylvania.” I have stated unequivocally that nobody is my gatekeeper. If meeting and talking with someone can help me deliver for Pennsylvania and the country, I’ll do it.
The development was initially reported by CBS News.
It’s unknown when and where they will meet, as well as whether it will happen before Trump’s inauguration on January 20.
Serving in the Senate since 2023, Fetterman has established himself as a centrist on Capitol Hill and has indicated that he might be open to supporting some of Trump’s Cabinet picks, like as Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., for secretary of state.
I have no particular message in mind. I have no idea what his is. When asked what he intends to tell Trump on Thursday afternoon, Fetterman responded to NBC News that it’s just about a conversation.
He noted a number of topics where he and Trump can cooperate.
[Riley Act] Laken. the boundary. Israel. “Chinese is a big problem,” Fetterman stated. I believe that there will be an increasing number of things that we can collaborate on. It goes without saying that we will differ on some points, but that is the way things are.
Fetterman indicated in a Fox News interview on Tuesday that he also intends to back candidates such as former Representative Sean Duffy, R-Wis., for secretary of transportation, and Elise Stefanik for ambassador to the UN.
“I’m going to vote for some of these nominees,” he stated. I’d like to remind everyone on the Democratic side that’s how democracy operates, and I’m open to hearing from everyone. I’m not sure why that’s problematic.
Fetterman stated his desire to collaborate with the next government in a nonpartisan manner.
Trump is a unique political talent, he claimed in an interview on ABC’s This Week last month.
There’s no denying it, Trump. He claimed to have the energy and a certain level of fearlessness. You were physically shot in the head after surviving an assassination, but you still had the foresight to react by fighting—fight, fight, fight. That’s a political talent, after all. It is indisputable.
