After his daughter, Olympic gold medallist Trinity Rodman, discussed their strained connection on a podcast and claimed that they are only connected by blood, NBA superstar Dennis Rodman apologized on Instagram.
American soccer player Trinity, 22, claimed on Wednesday’s Call Her Daddy podcast that she and her brother had been silent about their father for years. She remembered how he occasionally failed to provide for them financially, even when they were homeless, and how he only put on a show to help her athletic career when there were cameras present.
In an apology made on Instagram Thursday, her father—a five-time NBA champion and Hall of Famer who won three titles with the Chicago Bulls in the 1990s alongside Michael Jordan—said: I apologize for not being the parent you wanted me to be, but I still tried, I still try, and I never will stop.
He posted a video with numerous pictures of himself with his two children at an early age.
Even if you are told as an adult not to answer my calls, I will still try. I’ll give it a shot, even if it’s challenging or takes a while. He went on, “I’m always here and tell you how proud I am, whether it’s your voice or voicemail.”
I’ve always wished that my children would give me a call and come visit. I’m hoping to get that one day. You know my number, and I’m still here even though I’m still attempting to answer the phone. Dennis RODMAN authored, “Dad.”
He went on to say that even though his daughter is unaware of it, he watches her play soccer.
Just so you know, I always watch you play. In fact, I flew in to watch you play but was warned not to because of who I was with. I wanted to support you, so I watched you from my hotel balcony to please everyone. He said, “I love all of my kids.”
Rodman’s children from his marriage to Michelle Moyer are Trinity and her older brother DJ. In a protracted divorce that lasted from 2004 to 2012, they split up when Trinity was still a toddler.
Trinity, a standout for the Washington Spirit, was the youngest player drafted into the National Women’s Soccer League at the age of 18. She also assisted the United States in winning gold at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
She talked about how her father’s arrival during the 2021 National Women’s Soccer League Quarterfinal match brought her to tears on the podcast. After the game, they caught up, but it wasn’t until the last year that she saw or spoke with him again.
After that, I believe I gave up on ever winning him back. According to her, it was simply going to be him showing up whenever he wanted to be on camera. Furthermore, I don’t believe that was for me even at that game. I believe he wanted to feel good about himself before making headlines like Dennis Rodman attending his daughter’s game.
She admitted throughout the discussion that Rodman had struggled with alcohol. During his career, Rodman gained notoriety for his wild partying and antics both on and off the court.
“I believe that because of his success and wealth, he was surrounded by many toxic people who would steal his money and exploit him,” she added. He was indoctrinated and had no control over anything since he was drinking.
He does, in my opinion, wish he could battle his demons. I roll my eyes because it seems like he keeps saying the same thing and does nothing to alter it. In numerous interviews, he expressed his desire to be a better father. I could raise them. And she answered, “Okay, yeah, then do something.”
