Disney’s fleet is growing.
The Disney Treasure cruise ship will formally become the sixth ship in the company’s fleet when it embarks on its inaugural journey to the Caribbean from Port Canaveral, Florida, next month.
With a length of 1,119 feet and a height of 221 feet, the Treasure can accommodate 1,555 crew members and 4,000 passengers. The Treasure has premium on-board live entertainment, carefully designed lounges, and themed restaurants, just like Disney’s other cruise ships.
Disney is also starting a new trip as the Treasure sets sail. Before the premiere of the Disney Wish in mid-2022, the corporation had not launched a new ship in ten years. Now, it is embarking on a period of tremendous expansion.
With the arrival of the Disney Destiny and Disney Adventure in 2025, four more Disney-branded ships, and a collaboration with Oriental Land Company to offer Disney cruise holidays in Japan, Disney’s fleet is expected to treble by 2031.
According to Thomas Mazloum, head of Disney’s new experiences portfolio and Disney hallmark experiences, Disney Cruise Line is experiencing an unparalleled growth phase. Disney Cruise Line is currently experiencing extremely high demand. We are a high-end brand, occupancy is high, and, to be honest, business is booming.
Along with parks, resorts, and consumer goods, Disney cruises are a part of the company’s experiences segment. The division reported record revenue and profit for fiscal 2024 in its earnings release on Thursday, with operating income up 4% to $9.27 billion and revenue up 5% for the entire year to $34.15 billion.
After its entertainment sector, which generated $41.18 billion in fiscal 2024, the experiences segment was Disney’s second-largest source of revenue last year. The operating profits of the entertainment industry, however, were lower at $3.92 billion.
Among all Disney divisions, experiences had the best full-year sales increase, and the firm anticipates 6% to 8% profit growth for experiences in fiscal 2025.
Despite having very few ships, Disney has emerged as a major player in the family cruise market. In contrast, the three biggest cruise lines are Norwegian Cruise Line, which has over 30 ships, Royal Caribbean, which has over 40, and Carnival, which has over 100.
Disney’s base rates are a little more than those of Carnival and Royal Caribbean, but they are comparable if passengers decide to upgrade to larger staterooms or add experiences or meal packages to their itinerary.
Seven-night cruises on Disney’s Treasure start at $4,277 for two people and $6,994 for a family of four. If passengers choose cruises that coincide with Halloween or Christmas, these costs go up.
Gavin Doyle, the founder of MickeyVisit.com, stated that Disney’s innovations in cruising and its emphasis on storytelling are what make the company unique.
According to him, Disney completely changed the cruise industry when they first arrived by constructing the ships with the needs of its passengers in mind. They also integrated their well-known characters and intellectual properties.
Doyle pointed out that Disney uses rotating dining on its cruise ships to accommodate diners. Passengers are scheduled to eat at various themed eateries rather than in a single, spacious mess hall. In order to accompany each group of passengers to their designated restaurant, Disney also rotates the restaurant staff. By doing this, patrons are served by the same busboys, waiters, and restaurant managers throughout the duration of their stay, and waitstaff members learn to know the patrons and their tastes.
According to Doyle, their ability to provide this caliber of customer service is just magical.
Immersive dining
Even though the Treasure includes the standard cruise line amenities—upscale dining options, swimming pools, spas, and kid-friendly game rooms—Disney has elevated these offerings for visitors by including storytelling.
Live entertainment is available at its immersive dinnertime eateries. Guests are invited to join Mariachi Plaza for a joyful lunch and music at Plaza de Coco, the first theatrical dining experience inspired by the 2017 movie Coco.
In the meantime, visitors will be able to see two distinct shows at Worlds of Marvel: Marvel Celebration of Heroes: Groot Remix and Avengers: Quantum Encounter.
During their lunch, diners may watch the heroic escapades on a variety of displays in the high-tech venue.
Additionally, there is a restaurant called 1923, which takes its name from the year when Walt Disney Animation Studios was founded. This place is a little more sophisticated and quiet. It includes a selection of artwork with an exploration theme from both contemporary and vintage animated movies.
The Treasure offers several options for informal eating and short bites while traveling, in addition to the three main family restaurants. Based on the ice cream shop from Disney’s Zootopia, Jumbeaux’s Sweets is a great place for anyone with a sweet taste.
For those without children or seeking a night out, The Treasure also offers a few adult-only dining options.
Palo Steakhouse and Enchante are high-end eateries with gourmet Italian and French menus that draw inspiration from Beauty and the Beast. Pre-dinner aperitifs and post-dinner cocktails are served at The Rose, a stylish lounge at the entrance to the two restaurants.
Bringing the parks to the open seas
Disney is bringing intellectual properties from its parks to one of its ships for the first time with the Disney Treasure.
The Haunted Mansion Parlor is a bar that serves spirit-filled cocktails, mocktails, and zero-proof drinks in addition to haunting design elements from the well-known attraction.
According to Mazloum, Walt Disney World has existed for about 50 years. Disneyland for much longer. Over the years, many of our visitors have grown up visiting our parks, and as a result, you have these recognizable experiences and attractions. The idea originated from our Imagineers, and I have to give them a lot of credit for that.
“That idea literally made us very happy, and we’re even more happy with the response we’ve gotten,” he continued.
Jungle Cruise is another popular park attraction that will be at the Treasure. Amidst camp-style furniture, Skipper Society serves themed beverages and light fare.
Other places that are exclusively for adults are Periscope Pub, which is based on 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and Scat Cat Lounge, which is based on The Aristocats.
Multigenerational fun
Disney cruises are, of all, a family affair for many people.
People frequently claim that they were created with families in mind, and Mazloum claimed it is completely true. To take it a step further, I would argue that they were truly created with several generations in mind, allowing everyone to have pleasure in their experiences.
With one-third of families traveling with at least two generations, cruises are a popular option for multigenerational vacations, according to the Cruise Lines International Association. In its annual status of the cruise industry study released in April, the group stated that an additional 28% of cruise passengers board with three to five generations.
Every age group has a distinct area at Disney. Children six months to three years old can be seen at It’s a Small World nursery, while older kids can visit Disney’s Oceaneer Club, which has a number of immersive areas.
Disney’s The Tale of Moana is also available for families to see at the Walt Disney Theatre aboard the Treasure. The Broadway-style play debuts a brand-new song called Warrior Face and includes a huge Te Ka puppet. Disney Seas the Adventure and Beauty and the Beast will also be on stage.
The Treasure will also have well-known areas from the Disney Wish, such as the Hero Zone and the Wonderland and Never Land Cinemas. Cinemas are upscale viewing spaces with first-run Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Lucasfilm films, while Hero Zone is a sports and entertainment center with game show-style contests and physical challenges.
Like the Wish, the Treasure features a Toy Story-themed area with a family waterslide, splash pool, and wading pool. Curse of the Golden Egg is a modified version of the Wish’s AquaMouse water coaster.
