Dramatic Encounter: Escapee and Convicted Killer Faces Gunfire in Pennsylvania

In Pennsylvania, authorities report that Danelo Cavalcante, a convicted murderer, faced gunfire when he attempted to steal a firearm from a homeowner on a late Monday night.

Cavalcante had managed to escape from Chester County Prison on the morning of August 31. The U.S. Marshals Service was also pursuing him in connection with a homicide case in Brazil. In 2021, he had been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his former girlfriend.

According to a source within the Pennsylvania State Police, the homeowner fired at Cavalcante as he was trying to make off with a .22 caliber rifle. In total, seven shots were discharged by the homeowner. The rifle was equipped with a scope and flashlight.

Authorities have reported no injuries to Cavalcante in the shooting incident. He had entered a residence in East Nantmeal Township at around 10:10 p.m., taking advantage of an open garage door, with authorities describing his actions as an “opportunistic crime.”

The Pennsylvania State Police issued a warning, urging residents to lock all doors and windows, secure their vehicles, and stay indoors, avoiding any confrontation with Cavalcante. They advised people to call 911 if they spotted him. Cavalcante was described as shirtless, wearing blue pants, and was considered armed and “extremely dangerous.”

A resident in the vicinity where Cavalcante was believed to be on the run shared concerns about the safety of their children, mentioning that they were not allowing their kids to go outside due to the ongoing manhunt. The heavy police presence in the area led to road diversions and a temporary shutdown of the local school district.

Acting Warden of Chester County Prison, Howard Holland, had previously released video footage of Cavalcante’s escape on August 31 during a press conference. The video showed the convicted killer performing a crab-walk maneuver up a wall. The escape occurred at 8:51 a.m., and despite a lockdown being initiated shortly after, Cavalcante had already left the prison premises.

Cavalcante’s disappearance had been reported to authorities at 9:48 a.m. on the day of his escape, and a significant law enforcement effort had been mobilized to locate him.
