Late Friday night, January 10, 2025, an 82-year-old woman died in a terrible house fire in Wheatfield, New York. At 11:47 p.m., the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center got a 911 call indicating that 3992 Baisch Drive was experiencing intense smoke and fire.
When a North Tonawanda police officer and Niagara County sheriff’s deputies initially arrived on the scene, they verified that there was an active structure fire. Officers attempted to enter the house but were unable to do so because of the heavy smoke and fire.
Soon after, firefighters from the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Fire Department, Adams, St. Johnsburg, Bergholz, and Shawnee Volunteer Fire Companies arrived. As soon as they entered the house, they found the elderly woman on the first floor and tried to save her life. She tragically passed away from her wounds and was declared dead at the spot.
Until her family is notified, the woman’s identity is being kept secret. It is yet unknown how much property has been damaged.
The Niagara County incident Investigation Unit is still looking into what caused the incident.
