Father of Georgia school shooter Colt Gray pleads not guilty

On Thursday, Colin Gray, the father of alleged Georgia school shooter Colt Gray, entered a not guilty plea to charges pertaining to the September mass shooting at Apalachee High School, which claimed four lives.

Colin Gray’s lawyers showed up in court Thursday morning and pleaded not guilty on his behalf. A formal arraignment was also waived. He didn’t attend the hearing.

According to online court records, the older Gray was indicted by a Barrow County grand jury in October on 29 counts, including reckless conduct, involuntary manslaughter, second-degree murder, and second-degree cruelty to children.

According to Barrow County District Attorney Brad Smith, Colin Gray’s accusations were the first time a father of a suspected school shooter had ever been charged in the state.

In the September 4 shooting at the Winder high school, his son was charged separately on 55 counts, including four counts of felony murder and four counts of malice murder. According to court documents, Colt Gray, who was charged as an adult, entered a not guilty plea in October and waived his official arraignment.

Nine people were hurt, and two teachers and two students were slain. Christian Angulo, 14, Mason Schermerhorn, 14, Richard Aspinwall, 39, and Cristina Irimie, 53, were the names of those slain.

Following an interview with law enforcement officials in 2023 regarding allegations of internet threats to carry out a school shooting, two law enforcement sources familiar with the inquiry previously told NBC News that Colin Gray handed his son an AR-15-style firearm as a present.
