FBI investigating whether burglaries targeting athletes are linked to a transnational crime ring

According to two senior law enforcement sources, the FBI is collaborating with local law enforcement agencies to ascertain whether a recent wave of thefts at the residences of professional athletes is linked to a transnational criminal organization, such as one from South America.

Officials stated on Wednesday that the inquiry is still ongoing and that they have not yet determined who is specifically at fault. According to the officials, the case’s course could alter.

According to police investigations, two key members of the Kansas City Chiefs, tight end Travis Kelce and quarterback Patrick Mahomes, had their homes broken into just a few hours apart last month.

According to an incident description from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, officers were dispatched to Mahomes’ residence in Belton, Missouri, just after midnight on October 6.

The Super Bowl-winning quarterback, Mahomes, was not named in the story, but the address provided is in line with public data. Whether anything was taken was not made clear in the report.

The following day, Kelce’s house in Leawood, Kansas, roughly ten miles away, was broken into, according to TMZ. According to a police report acquired by Kansas City’s NBC affiliate KSHB, twenty-thousand dollars was stolen.

On November 3, Milwaukee Bucks forward Bobby Portis shared a video on Instagram claiming that his valuables had been taken from his house during his team’s game the day before, according to NBC’s “TODAY” program.

In September, the Minneapolis Star Tribune also revealed that when Mike Conley Jr., a player for the Minnesota Timberwolves, was at a Minnesota Vikings game, burglars broke into his house.

The police department in Medina, Minnesota, which is looking into the Conley case, told NBC News that it was working with other agencies from other states on high-profile burglaries.

We are aware of a few other athletes who have had their residences broken into in other states,” the statement read. “Those agencies, along with additional state and federal partners, are collaborating with our investigation. We cannot be certain that they are all connected.
