Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi undergoes hip replacement after sustaining injuries in Europe

According to a spokeswoman on Saturday, former Speaker Nancy Pelosi had a successful hip surgery in Germany following an injury she suffered while traveling to Luxembourg.

The spokesperson, Ian Krager, said Pelosi was “well on the mend.”

“Speaker Pelosi expresses gratitude to the medical staff at Hospital Kirchberg and the U.S. military personnel at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center for their exceptional treatment and generosity. Krager continued, “Speaker Pelosi is delighted by the tremendous influx of prayers and well wishes and is steadfast in her resolve to guarantee that every American has access to high-quality healthcare.

A Defense official told NBC News that when Pelosi was hurt Friday during an official congressional trip to Luxembourg, MEDEVAC transported the former speaker to Landstuhl, Germany.

Pelosi spokesperson Krager informed reporters in a statement on Friday that the 84-year-old Pelosi “sustained an injury during an official engagement and was admitted to the hospital for evaluation.”

“Doctors and medical professionals are providing excellent care for Speaker Emerita Pelosi at the moment,” Krager continued. She regrets not being able to attend the remaining CODEL engagements to commemorate the bravery of our service members during one of the most heroic deeds in American history, but she is still working.

Additional information regarding Pelosi’s ailment and how she got it was not included in Friday’s statement.

While traveling with more than a dozen other members of Congress to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, Pelosi was initially admitted to the hospital in Luxembourg.

Although she resigned her leadership role among House Democrats in 2022, bringing about a generational shift in the party’s leadership, she remains one of the oldest members in the House.
