Governor Hochul Celebrates Lunar New Year, Highlights Cultural Vibrancy and Historic Educational Milestone

(WNY News Now) In a momentous cultural event and a major turning point in New York history, Governor Kathy Hochul made an appearance at the Flushing Chinese Business Association’s Lunar New Year Parade.

Governor Kathy Hochul participated in the Lunar New Year parade of the Flushing Chinese Business Association.

Kuai le xin nian! I hope you all have a great Lunar New Year. I simply met people in the community and had a great party. We danced and celebrated our culture, and I’m honored to be the governor of a state where 10% of New Yorkers identify as Asian or AAPI. It contributes to our liveliness.

Additionally, this past week was the first time in our state’s history that children were granted a day off from school to continue celebrating these wonderful traditions and spend time with their families during the Lunar New Year vacation.

We are still working to combat hate crimes against all peoples, but as we seen during the pandemic, hate crimes against Asians increased. We want people to know that we will take all necessary precautions to keep them safe. To provide them with the safety they require not only in their homes but also on our streets and subways, we have increased the amount of money allocated to our budget.
