(WNY News Now) Governor Kathy Hochul warns New Yorkers to prepare for winter weather disruptions as Thanksgiving draws near, as rain and snow are predicted to interrupt travel plans around the state.

First, let’s talk about the weather. Holiday season is upon us. There is a storm building in New York. We are not unfamiliar with this. Mother Nature is not been kind this year, and it tends to strike whenever New Yorkers want to travel and spend time with their loved ones. Let’s provide an update, then.

We anticipate eight inches of snowfall whether you live in or are traveling to the North Country. For skiers, this is fantastic news. I’m eager to get on the slopes, but since this is the first significant snowfall of the season, the system will be taken aback. My family and everyone else will be traveling along the I-90 quarter between Albany and West.

Rain and downstate conditions were accompanied by a few inches of snow. Fortunately, it’s just raining, and after a drought, that sounds fairly wonderful. People are being asked to keep an eye on their local forecast. Make sure everyone is careful, but Western New York is another area of the state that I neglected to mention. We are about to experience lake effect snow.

We are prepared to do that. I have already had a conversation with Buffalo’s mayor. I said, “We are here, new mayor.” Make sure everyone is on speed dial. We can assist you in a variety of ways, which is vital. I’ve alerted the National Guard already. Additionally, we were prepared to send 5,500 utility crews around the state.

We will be on the ground wherever we need assistance, and I have hundreds of people from DOT and the Thruway Authority ready to go. Again, it’s awful timing, but for those of us who are able to remain home, simply burrow down and watch some football, we know how to manage it.
